Essential Functions• Assist with the positioning, prepping and draping of the patient or perform independently if so directed by the surgeon.̇Provide Retraction by: Closely observing the operative field at all times, demonstrating stamina for sustained retraction, retaining manually controlled retractors in the position set by the surgeon with regard to surrounding tissue, managing all instruments in the operative field to prevent obstruction of the surgeon's view, anticipating retraction needs with knowledge of the surgeon's preference and anatomical structures.Provide hemostasis by: applying electrocautery tip to clamps or tissues in a safe and knowledgeable manner as directed by the surgeon, sponging and utilizing pressure as needed, utilizing suctioning techniques, applying clamps on vessels and the tying or electrocoagulation of them as directed by the surgeon, placing suture ligatures in tissue as directed by surgeon, placing hemoclips on vessels as directed by the surgeonPerform knot tying by: having knowledge of the basic techniques, tying knots firmly to prevent slipping, avoid undue friction to prevent fraying of the suture, carrying the knot down to the tissue with the tip of finger and laying the strands flat, approximating tissue rather than pulling tightly to prevent tissue necrosis.Provide closure of layers by: correctly approximately the layers under the directions of the surgeon, demonstrate knowledge of different types of closure, correctly approximating skin edges utilizing skin staplesAssist surgeon at the completion of the procedure by: affixing and stabilizing all drains, cleaning the wound and applying the dressing, and assist with applying casts, splints and various other immobilization devices.Establish and maintain a sterile field to reduce potential infection by continual monitoring of the sterile fieldDemonstrates ability to perform effectively ad harmoniously as a member of the operative team. Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate preventive and corrective action.Job RequirementsMinimum EducationGraduate of a program in NursingCurrent Kentucky license of a RN and Current RNFA certificationCurrent Kentucky Licensure of a Register NurseBLS required with ACLS ( optional), PALS (optional) or obtained within 6 months of hire , CNOR (preferred)Equal opportunity and affirmative action employers and are looking for diversity in candidates for employment: Minority/Female/Disabled/Protected Veteran
