Patient Care:
- Provide direct, comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients, including those with severe respiratory, cardiac, neurological, and multi-organ failure.
- Monitor and assess patients' conditions continuously, interpreting vital signs, lab results, and diagnostic imaging.
- Administer prescribed medications, intravenous fluids, and specialized treatments, ensuring proper dosing, timing, and monitoring for adverse reactions.
- Use advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, intravenous pumps, and hemodynamic monitoring devices.
- Perform and interpret complex diagnostic tests and procedures, including EKGs, arterial blood gas tests, and point-of-care testing.
Clinical Decision Making:
- Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and adjust care plans for critically ill patients.
- Respond quickly to changes in patient conditions, initiating life-saving interventions as needed (e.g., resuscitation, intubation, or defibrillation).
- Continuously assess and prioritize care based on patients' evolving conditions and critical needs.
- Interpret complex clinical data, including lab results, telemetry, and vital signs, to make informed decisions on patient care.
Patient and Family Support:
- Provide emotional support and clear communication to patients and their families about the patient s condition, prognosis, and treatment plans.
- Educate families on procedures, treatment options, and recovery processes, ensuring they understand complex medical information in a compassionate and understandable manner.
- Assist families in making critical decisions regarding end-of-life care or advanced directives.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records in the electronic health record (EHR), including documentation of assessments, interventions, medications, and patient progress.
- Ensure compliance with hospital documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
- Record all changes in patient conditions, treatments, and patient/family interactions.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, nutritionists, and social workers, to provide holistic, patient-centered care.
- Participate in daily rounds to discuss patient progress and make necessary adjustments to the care plan.
- Communicate effectively with other team members to ensure continuity of care and the best patient outcomes.
Quality Improvement & Safety:
- Adhere to infection control practices, safety standards, and hospital policies and procedures to maintain a safe and effective care environment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and continuing education to improve care delivery and professional skills.
- Monitor for adverse reactions to treatments, report issues, and follow up on patient concerns or complications promptly.
Qualifications:

Education:
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.

Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid state RN license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) is preferred but not mandatory.
- Other certifications as required by the unit (e.g., trauma, pediatric critical care).

Experience:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience in an acute care or ICU setting preferred.
- Experience in managing critically ill patients with multi-system involvement and advanced technologies is highly desirable.
