Compass Healthcare Consulting & Placement is conducting a search for an RN Infection Control Practitioner for a well established hospital system based in the Bronx, NY. Qualified candidates will have a NYS RN, BSN and CIC Infection Control Certification, NYS Infection Control Training Practitioner Certification, and previous work experience within Infection Control in a Hospital setting.
RN Infection Control Practitioner
The RN Infection Control Practitioner Coordinates and is responsible for the daily operation and delivery of the prevention and control of infections utilizing patient care standards, geriatric standards of care and within the NYS Nurse Practice Act Plans.
- Participates in the development of recommendations for improvement in patient safety based on staff recommendations.
- Participates in the implementation and monitoring of patient safety programs.
- Responsible for proper functioning and maintenance of equipment and supplies necessary for efficient operations and participates in the Value Analysis Committee.
- Through hospital-wide rounds and other verbal and written communication, makes frequent contact with all administrators, managers and staff throughout the hospital system, eliciting recommendations regarding continuous improvement from staff.
- Encourages reporting of occurrences without fear of reprisal. Reviews staff and visitor occurrences to identify potential safety issues and trends related to infection prevention and control; reports finding to the Environment of Care (EOC) committee and to the appropriate manager or administrator to prevent future similar occurrences.
- Defines goals, objectives and outcomes for infection prevention and control, evaluating care delivery and processes to ensure optimal functioning of all departments.
- Develops and administers the operating and capital budget for infection prevention and control.
- Complies with all regulatory agencies including OSHA, The Joint Commission, NYSDOH, and NYCDOHMH, utilizing their standards to develop and implement policies and procedures related to areas of infection prevention and control for the hospital system.
- Also provides guidance and expertise to all departments in the development and implementation of Infection Control and safety policies and procedures for their areas.
- Plans, supervises, conducts and coordinates activities in all assigned areas to assure infection prevention and control of all activities, as well as regulatory compliance.
- Evaluates systems and processes to improve and enhance the quality of care in all areas.
- Counsels and disciplines staff in matters pertaining to infection prevention and control policies and procedures, patient care, performance, problem solving and decision-making; documents all interventions.
- Assesses the learning needs and arranges for the appropriate continuing education of all staff, ensuring regulatory compliance with required training and competencies in areas of infection prevention and control.
- Assesses the learning needs of all hospital staff providing them with the appropriate orientation and ongoing education related to Infection Prevention and Control including annual departmental education, infection prevention and control promotion activities, and teaching via in-person, written and verbal communication.
- Submits reports to regulatory agencies including the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYCDOHMH), the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), and the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) on a regular basis as required.
- Assists the director with activities in the Infection Prevention and Control Department and works collaboratively with the Employee Health Department complying with all regulatory requirements including Fit Testing, TB screening, administration of vaccinations, and monitoring of employee infections to identify any trends.
- Assists with the coordination of all activities for the Infection Control Department as required by policy and regulatory agencies.
- Reviews and monitors employee and patient infections and makes recommendations accordingly.
- Develops effective methods to prevent, identify and control the spread of infections throughout the hospital system.
- Gives directions to and oversees the RN Surveillance nurse to assist with infection control activities as appropriate.
- Participates in various committees assisting with preparation of reports as required; participates in the Surveillance, Prevention and Control of Infections Committee.
- Provides expertise and utilizes performance improvement tools to identify indicators and improve care and practice related to infection prevention and control.
- Works collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer, administration managers and staff members to resolve concerns regarding infection prevention and control throughout the company/programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- BSN, Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
- Current license as a NYS Registered Professional Nurse.
- Prior infection control experience required.
- Current certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) preferred or in progress.
- Current certification as a New York State Infection Control Training Practitioner NYS ICTP preferred or in progress.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills with the ability to take initiative and function autonomously.
- Demonstrates clinical competency as an Infection Control Practitioner.
