  • Maintains current knowledge of infection prevention standards as they relate to the hospital and ambulatory environment so that practices which promote infection prevention and control are adopted and implemented ensuring the safety of patients, families, and staff.
  • Uses a systematic approach to monitor the effectiveness of infection prevention and control strategies; assists with development an Infection Control Plan; devises an Infection Control Risk Assessment; analyzes results of surveillance, special studies, or other data collected for determination of infections; and provides reports of data to appropriate departments so that risks are known and mitigated and safety is achieved.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide education, collaborate and be a resource to staff and patients/families so information which impacts infection prevention is understood, simplified and able to be practiced by the learner.
  • Maintains knowledge regarding the infection prevention needs of specialized patient populations, patient equipment, and building conditions which impact patient and staff health so that assistance with determining safe practices is provided.
  • Provides leadership and coordination of the activities of the Infection Control Committee, providing knowledge, performance improvement initiatives, and advocacy so that infection control practices for the health care system are maintained for patient and staff safety.
  • Demonstrates expertise in reviewing patients' clinical histories, providing surveillance of hospital acquired infections and other infectious conditions, and communicating these findings to relevant departments, staff, leadership, and reporting agencies such as the Health Department so appropriate interventions can be implemented as necessary.
  • Monitors and ensures the quality of health care providing leadership for collaborative outcomes and research projects, participating in quality improvement activities and hospital committees, making infection control rounds to identify problems and implement solutions, and providing after-hours coverage for questions regarding infections, isolation precautions, and infection control practices so the safety of patients, families and staff is ensured .

    • Baccalaureate degree, in nursing from an accredited School of Nursing required
    • Registered Nurse (RN) Required. Florida State or Compact License required
    • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 3 years of hire into the position
    • 5 years of work experience in a related field (e.g. Nursing)
    • Current licensure in the State of Florida as a registered nurse
