To provide direct nursing care to the residents and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants in accordance with current federal, state and local standards governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Director of Nursing Services or her designee, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Qualifications:
1. Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing and meet all applicable federal and state licenser requirements.
2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
3. Must show ability to read and write in a legible and understandable manner.
4. Must speak and understand English.
5. Must be able to demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills.
6. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices. These include procedures, laws, regulations and guidelines governing long-term care.
7. Positive attitude toward the elderly and sick.
8. Must have knowledge of care planning.
9. Must have prior experience working in a nursing home
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Administrative Function: Duties
Know and comply with and ensure that all nursing services personnel know and comply with Residents Rights.
Monitor Nursing Services to ensure that resident rights and needs are met.
Review and promptly report to the Director of Nursing or Administrator and maintain written records of all resident complaints and grievances.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
1. Ability to read and write in English.
2. Ability to communicate with residents, families, personnel and support agencies.
3. Ability to remain calm under stress.
Care Plan and Assessment Functions: Duties
Assist and participate in developing for each resident a preliminary and comprehensive assessment and a written care plan that identifies the nursing and medical problems' and/or need identified.
Encourage residents and their families to participate in the development and review of care plans.
Ensure that all nursing services personnel are aware of the care plan and that care plans are used in providing daily nursing services to the resident.
Review nurses' notes and monitor residents to ensure that the care plans are being followed and that residents' needs are being met.
Planning and Inventory Functions: Duties
Recommend to the Director of Nursing Services the Equipment and supply needs of the Nursing Services Department.
Ensure that adequate and cost effective inventory control procedures are followed.
Make periodic inspections of medications, supplies and equipment to ensure that adequate levels are maintained and that equipment is available and working properly.
Develop and implement procedures to ensure that trained and authorized personnel operate nursing services equipment in a safe manner.
Committee Functions: Duties
Attend and participate in various committees and meetings of the facility.
Provide written and/or oral reports of the Nursing Services Department.
Evaluate and implement recommendations pertaining to nursing services.
Safety and Sanitation Requirements: Duties
Monitor nursing personnel to safety standards, fire and disaster, infection control and all other departmental policies and procedures are followed.
Ensure that nursing services personnel follow established infection control procedures when isolation precautions become necessary.
Participate in developing, implementing and maintaining procedures for reporting Hazardous conditions or equipment.
Ensure cleanliness of nursing services work areas, stations, preparation rooms, treatment areas and resident rooms.
