Inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, the mission of Cardinal Ritter Senior Services is to be a recognized provider in giving person centered care through an integrated continuum of quality residential, healthcare, and supportive social services for senior adults throughout the Archdiocese of Saint Louis.Job SummaryFunctions as a Registered Nurse (RN) for Mary, Queen and Mother Center (MQMC).Job ResponsibilitiesUses the Nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation to respond to resident needs holistically.Supervises, instructs, and assists Certified Medication Technicians (CMTs) and Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs) in resident care, ensuring appropriate care and maintaining current assignment sheets.Promotes individualized, maximum care for each resident physically, emotionally, and spiritually.Supervises/administers prescribed medications and treatments per physician orders, MQMC policy, procedures, and the Nurse Practice Act.Observes residents' reactions to medications/treatments, records and reports reactions and significant incidents to the Nursing Supervisor, physician, and responsible party. Documents in the resident's chart and on the 24 Hour Report.Provides a complete, accurate report about residents to the next shift.Maintains the medical record with pertinent and routine information, such as condition changes, monthly summaries, Medicare notations, physician visits, skin conditions, cognitive status, etc.Makes rounds with physicians, noting changes in resident status, and completes all required documentation and physician orders per policies and procedures.Completes all duties for resident care, including labs, x-rays, pharmacy requisitions, and consulting with other departments or professionals as needed.Assists in resident feeding during meals, ensuring proper nutrition.Completes Incident Reports as needed for residents, staff, or visitors, and promptly notifies the physician and responsible party.Notifies the responsible party of any changes in resident condition, Incident Reports, adverse medication reactions, lab/x-ray permissions, consult permissions, transfers, discharges, changes in orders, or death.Secures and manages the proper care, use, storage, and billing of supplies and equipment.Assists in orienting and teaching new staff.Provides performance counseling and evaluations in cooperation with the Nursing Supervisor per policies and procedures.Maintains professional growth through in-services, seminars, workshops, and professional organizations.Maintains communication between shifts through verbal, written, or taped reports, and informs the Nursing Supervisor of any unusual incidents or changes involving residents, families, visitors, or staff.Performs duties professionally, showing kindness, consideration, and cooperation with residents, families, visitors, and staff.Starts IVs and administers IV medications per the Nurse Practice Act.Maintains the Nursing Communication log.Completes new admissions/transfers promptly (verifies physician orders, faxes prescriptions to pharmacy, notifies relevant departments of new resident arrival, and makes appropriate documentation).Destroys unused medications according to procedure.Ensures staff adherence to HR Policies and Procedures.Performs other assigned duties.Job RequirementsMust be currently licensed and qualified as a Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri.Knowledge in the proper use of equipment necessary to fulfill physician's orders and facility policies.Must possess a specialized interest and experience in geriatrics and Nursing care of the chronically ill and convalescent adults.Must possess a knowledge of regulations governing extended care facilities.Must be flexible and tolerant in circumstances as they arise.Must be able to assume responsibility, supervise, and delegate duties in a fair and organized manner.Must be organized, tactful, courteous, and possess good communication skills.Must maintain confidentiality with all pertinent resident care information to assure residents rights are protected.Must be willing to advocate resident rights to ensure fair and equitable treatment, self determinations, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, and the right to wage a grievance.Must set an example for staff in regards to promptness, manner, professionalism, dress/appearance, demeanor, safety, cooperation, customer service, Nursing Service, etc.Must be able to perform the physical/mental functions/requirements of the position (see attached).Cardinal Ritter Senior Services does not discriminate on the basis of handicapped status in the admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, its federally assisted programs and activities.
