Maintains safety standards for personnel and equipment. Promotes team efforts with physicians and personnel of other departments.JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Personal Job-Related Skills: Demonstrated ability in nursing practice. Requires effective oral and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.Licensure, Registry or Certification: Current RN licensure by the State of Texas. BCLS and ACLS, and PALS within 6 months is required.Experience:1. Prior Work Experience: One-year hospital experience preferred.2. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThis is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties assigned to this job classification. Plans, assesses, and implements an individualized plan of care for assigned acute care patients. •Provide general and emergent nursing care to the patients in accordance with standards of practice for medical/surgical nursing. •Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff and ancillary departments regarding the treatment and care of all patients •Ensures that all patients have a nursing care plan that identifies the patient's assessed present and potential problems. •Collaborate and assists other staff members providing care as needed while maintaining a safe environment. •Document care provided and responses to interventions in accordance with hospital policies. •Administer prescribed medications and treatments timely and in Accordance with accepted standards of practice. •Identifies and Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Initiatives •Directs and guides LVN's and other personnel to assist with the care of patients within their scope of practice. •Facilitates admissions and transfers both intra-hospital and with outlying facilities•Float to other nursing departments as needed to assist during increased census or emergency situations •Provides care appropriate for patients of all ages based on the principles of growth and development over the life span. •Participate as needed in the orientation and training of otherstaff/students Maintains safety standards when utilizing supplies and equipment on the medical-surgical unit. •Adhere to departmental policies for notification of missing or needed supplies.•Remove all malfunctioning equipment from the patient care area, notify the charge nurse of specific details •Collaborate with housekeeping to identify and mitigate environmental safety hazards. •Maintain competency utilizing emergency equipment safely Facilitates favorable relationships between the medical-surgical unit. Medical Staff, and other hospital departments and seeks input regarding nursing care. •Demonstrate behaviors that promote positive and effective relationshipswith patients, families and members of the healthcare team. •Collaborate with all members of the healthcare team to resolve problems. •Utilize behavioral standards to maintain open communication with patient, families and the healthcare team. •Incorporate the Patient 's rights into everyday clinical practice. Assists with the Nursing Departmental functions •Utilizes best practices in promoting infection control and safety guidelines. •Demonstrates HIPPA compliance by maintaining confidentiality of patient/hospital related information at all times. Follows State and Federal Guidelines for Safety and Quality. •Complete annual OSHA required education. •Attends annual health and safety education as scheduled.•Demonstrate knowledge of location and correct use of fire extinguishers.
