- Completes comprehensive head-to-toe physical and psychosocial assessment of patients; takes or reviews nursing histories to provide a basis of development of patient care plans.
- Implements patient's written care plan, evaluates patient's response to care provided and redirects care as necessary.
- Demonstrates proficiency in competencies for direct patient care and technical skills.
- Implements and monitors appropriate nursing care plan to meet patient's needs; identifies expected intervention, and ensures vital patient information is passed on when patient care is transferred to another nurse.
- Administers medications, including IV's as prescribed by physician or directed from physician preference card. Knows the actions, indications, dosage and route of administration on drugs prior to administering to patient.
- Demonstrates knowledge of media legal consequences of nursing activities; interprets
diagnostic data and practices infection control in all actions.
- Participates in the health care education needs for the client and the family as appropriate.
- Monitors utilization of equipment, instrumentation and supplies.
- Maintains safe and sanitary work environment.
- Serves as a positive role model for nursing and para-professional personnel, fosters positive working relationships with physicians.
- Collaborates with hospital personnel and physicians.
- Participates in evaluative mechanisms to determine unit's quality of nursing practice.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures of National Park Medical Center.
