This role is responsible for coordination and facilitation of the trauma process improvement (PI) process, which encompasses all patient care areas admitting trauma patients. Provides coordination and facilitation of performance improvement data collection, analysis, trending and benchmarking of data and outcomes. Collaborates closely with trauma program leadership to assure compliance with trauma guidelines. Develops and or coordinates trauma education throughout the continuum of care. The role will provide leadership for development, implementation and evaluation of clinical pathways, clinical procedures, guidelines, and protocols. Supervises and participates in community trauma related injury prevention initiatives. Supervises and participates in community partnerships, outreach, pre-hospital teams and provider groups. Supervises, monitors, and validates the comprehensive trauma program activities.ACCOUNTABILITIES*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*50% Performance Improvement (PI)1. Interpret and implement trauma related policies and procedures. 2. Complete primary case review for each trauma patient meeting National Trauma Data Dictionary (NTDS) inclusion criteria. 3. Complete secondary, tertiary, or quaternary case reviews in concert with the trauma medical director and trauma services director following the trauma programs PI process algorithm. 4. Participate in the development and planning of goals and objectives related to cares involving trauma patients and families. 5. Coordinate with the trauma medical director, trauma services director, hospital executive leadership and clinicians to assess the need for policies, procedures or protocols relating to the care for the trauma population. 6. Assist in the development of policies, procedures or protocols based on current literature, input from clinicians, evidenced based sources and feedback from staff involved with trauma patient cares. Make recommendations for revisions when opportunities are identified or presented. 7. Represent the trauma program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster optimal trauma care management. 8. Assists in data collection related to the trauma patient. Analyze registry data on the trauma patient population; identify trends for strategic planning and performance improvement. 9. Ensures the trauma program is in alignment with the standards set forth by the American College of Surgeons manual titled Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient most recently available standards. 10. Ensures follow up with referring hospitals post patient discharge. 11. Facilitate transition in rehabilitation and discharge planning for patients using patient - centered strategies such as the trauma survivor's network, and continuous case management addressing links to trauma services and community resources. 12. Demonstrates knowledge of Trauma Quality Improvement Programs (TQIP) and NTDS as expected for this role. 13. Assist with triennial trauma center re-verification visit. 14. Participate in research and scholarly activates.20% Injury Prevention 15. Utilize available data to identify high rates of injury, populations in which the injury occur and incorporate into injury prevention education and related materials. 16. Collaborate with community organizations, prehospital organizations, schools, law enforcement agencies, public health organizations and others interested in community injury prevention efforts to share injury prevention education and tools. 17. Provide injury prevention for at-risk populations which are identified in available data obtained from the trauma registry to provide injury prevention education such as falls prevention and motor vehicle safety. p. 3 18. Implement at least two activities per year that include deliverables addressing major causes of injury identified in available data from the trauma registry. 19. Collaborate with pre-hospital agencies to provide outreach education. 20. Work collectively with State of Ohio committees and organizations, attend regional trauma committee meetings related to injury prevention tactics or activities.20% Trauma Education and Dissemination of Guidelines, Protocols and Policies21. Dissemination of new guidelines, protocols and polices to emergency. department staff and inpatient trauma care services. 22. Provide trauma orientation education to new nursing staff caring for trauma patients. 23. Monitor and maintain compliance of trauma protocols and guidelines. 24. Develop and foster collaborative relationships with all hospital departments to facilitate, support and educate trauma processes in alignment with quality trauma care. 25. Monitor national and statewide trends in trauma care. 26. Respond to trauma team activations that occur during work hours when available to assist families and team members with trauma process. 27. Serve as a resource for the hospital staff regarding trauma care issues. 28. Plan and implement strategies for ongoing trauma program development and improvement. 29. Collaborate with nursing leadership and providers to monitor performance of hospital staff involved with the care of trauma patients. 30. Monitors the trauma team's availability and compliance with policies and standards. 31. Maintain TNCC-I status to provide professional trauma education. 32. Provide public and professional trauma education, which may include Stop the Bleed.10% Trauma Clinic(s)33. Facilitates patient follow up with adult trauma clinic, and adult rib clinic assisting with scheduling appointments as needed. 34. Facilitate flow and cares of patients seen in the adult trauma clinic and the adult rib clinic. 35. Provide education to families and patients in adult trauma clinic and the adult rib clinic as identified. 36. Collaborate with providers and staff to coordinate clinic duties, education, documents, and follow up processes.Job RequirementsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: BSNSkills: 2 years' experience in leadership related role inclusive of trauma populationYears of Experience: 3-5 years' experience working with trauma patients which may include, critical care (ICU's), emergency department, OR.License: RN in the State of OhioCertification: ACLS, BLSPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Master's degreeSkills: 5 or more years' experience working with trauma patients which may include, critical care (ICU's), emergency department, OR. Experience in program management and injury preventionLicense: RN in the State of OhioCertification: TNCC-I, ACLS, PALS, ENCPADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE Experience using a personal computer, calculator, telephone, copier, & modem/fax.
