Position Title:RN - Registered Nurse - Main Infusion Clinic - Stephenson Cancer CenterDepartment:SCC Main Infusion CenterJob Description:New to OU Health? Ask your recruiter about our competitive total rewards package including a $5,000 or $10,000 sign-on bonus!Location: Stephenson Cancer CenterShift Available: Full-Time (40 hours/week) 10-hr shifts Monday-FridayThe Main Chemotherapy Infusion Center is an adult outpatient facility at the Stephenson Cancer Center with 43 patient treatment bays, treating roughly 100-125 patients with Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy each day. This is a fast-paced, team-centered environment that requires great communication skills and the ability to multitask. Our department orientation includes one-on-one precepting and becoming ONS certified to be able to administer Chemotherapy, so we welcome candidates who are willing to learn a new specialty.General Description:Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.Essential Responsibilities:Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the positions.   • Chemotherapy and Administration and Consultation: Administers PO, SC injections, chemotherapy drugs, and other medications as ordered by physician: consults with other medical personnel and may provide expert information about chemotherapy, side effects, etc.:provides a variety of assistance to physicians
  • Assumes responsibility for clinic specific assignments
  • Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients
  • Assists physician during conscious sedation patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
  • Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary
  • Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products
  • Delivers patient care competently
  • Interacts with family and patient in sharing care plan while in the clinic, time of discharge, and continued care via phone triage
  • Informs patient and family of clinic procedures
  • Patient Education: Provides chemotherapy related educational information to patients, family, etc.: answers inquiries and provides guidance as appropriate
  • Makes referral regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel
  • Delegates tasks to support staff
  • Patient Follow Up: Schedules patient follow-up activities related to their treatment and assists with coordination of care by obtaining referrals and completing phone calls with the patients after their clinic visits
General Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications:Education: Graduate from an accredited school school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing Board Approved Program preferred.Experience: At least 1 year in the capacity of an RN in a healthcare Environment preferredLicense(s) Certification(s) Registration(s) Required:
  • Current RN license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN license (eNLC)
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire
  • Obtain Fundamentals of Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration - Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) within one year of hire. Within three years of hire, obtain ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate - Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) to replace Fundamentals of Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration - Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques and procedures
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors
  • Computer skills
