JOB SUMMARY

The Operating Room Educator plans, directs, and coordinates all orientation and educational activities in the surgical services departments; provides clinical direction to new employees and plays as an active team member on the Surgical Services administrative team. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient being served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and assess data reflective of the patients' current status in relation to their age specific needs. Must demonstrate knowledge of data collection, analysis, and preparation with attention to Inpatient and Outpatient NSQIP data as well as knowledge of Nursing Practice Safety Goals, Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection, Stroke, and Orthopedic Total Joint reporting. Organizes and reviews the process of compliance for Implanted Tissue and the Tracking of same from implantation to documentation. Reports Tissue Tracking for patient safety and compliance dictated by the AATB, the Joint Commission & the FDA. Organizes, reviews, and works on process improvement projects for Surgical Services to improve the overall quality of all populations served.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, CNOR to be obtained within first year of employment.

Licensure: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Georgia

Experience: A minimum of five years of surgical experience, leadership and research qualities. One year of teaching experience preferred. BCLS Instructor to be obtained within first year of employment.

Skills: The ability to circulate all specialties. Provides staff development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, leader, and researcher. Each supports the development of the nurse/tech, and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing practice. This occurs through the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development. Proficient in critical thinking abilities in the care of the patient population including age appropriate needs and the ability to select instrumentation and supplies according to age.
