Up to $15,000 Sign on Bonus* RN Unit Manager- Seneca Hill Manor, FT Job Title: RN Unit Manager Department: The Manor at Seneca HillReports to: Director of Nursing Revision Date: 7/9/2020Grade Level: 32 Status: ExemptJob Summary: The Nurse Manager is responsible for the quality and efficiency of nursing services for an assigned unit. The Nurse Manager plans, administers and coordinates nursing care on the unit in conformance with facility policies and New York State and Federal regulations. Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Must demonstrate a working knowledge of, but not limited to, all Seneca Hill Manor facility policies/procedures as they pertain to specific duties.
  • Contribute to the written philosophy and objectives for Seneca Hill Manor and the nursing department as requested.
  • Develop short and long range goals to attain objectives in accordance with overall organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assess all residents demonstrating a change in status and notify the MD/Nurse Practitioner as needed.
  • Document resident problems/ changes in status in compliance with facility policy and mandated regulations.
  • Complete all required documentation in a consistent, timely, and thorough manner.
  • Evaluate employees after work related injuries and complete employee incident reports as needed.
  • Complete performance evaluations on all unit staff in accordance with facility policy.
  • Apply policies and initiate corrective action for employees who do not meet standard level of performance.
  • Hold monthly staff meetings to discuss nursing/unit problems, concerns, discuss new policies/routines, etc.
  • Monitor/evaluate all resident information/diagnostic results received during shift to determine need for follow-up.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
  • Take a leadership role in unit medical and facility emergencies.
  • Initiate an investigation in the event of any report of actual or suspected resident abuse.
  • Work with families/residents to problem-solve issues as they arise.
  • Administer medications (as required) per facility policy following principles of safe medication administration.
  • Complete treatments as needed following Seneca Hill Manor Skin Care Protocol and preventative skin care policy.
  • Transcribe, double-check and carry out MD/Nurse practitioner orders as needed.
  • Function in the Charge Nurse role if needed.
  • Assist in the orientation of new employees as requested.
  • Participate in the development, revision and implementation of nursing policies and procedures.
  • Instruct/educate nursing staff on new policies/procedures/equipment as requested.
  • Assist in maintaining the nursing unit and facility in a clean, safe and orderly manner.
  • Read and follow all memos related to the nursing department. Reinforce all memos with unit staff.
  • Complete resident/family teaching as needed.
  • Assist in the QA process through completion of required audits. Assist staff in improving performance based upon QA results.
  • Function as Building Supervisor as needed.
  • Complete MDS' as needed.
  • Assist in the care planning process through contribution of information for the development and/or revision of resident care plans.
  • Complete unit schedules and payroll on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrate awareness of roles, objectives and goals of other facility health care disciplines.
  • Assist in providing for the physical, emotional, and spiritual comfort and environmental safety of residents.
  • Support nursing staff and nursing administration in meeting goals and objectives by following and enforcing nursing department policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related tasks required for the smooth functioning of the department as requested.
Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):
  • Ability to supervise, direct, and evaluate the nursing staff in the provision of resident care and performance of job duties.
  • Demonstrated effective communication, conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of the process of aging as it relates to health care as well as resident rights and abuse regulations.
  • Knowledge in determining the type and amount of nursing staff and supplies needed to provide quality resident care.
  • Demonstrate correct and safe technique in use of all nursing/resident equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Professionalism and business acumen appropriate for working with guests, clients, physicians, employees and volunteers.
  • Excellent time management skills, punctuality and a sense of urgency in completing tasks.
  • Ability to cost effectively manage resources and supplies.
Education and Experience:
  • Currently licensed in New York State as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Current certification in CPR required.
  • One year of Medical Surgical and Gerontology experience strongly preferred.
Working Conditions:
  • Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling during the work day.
  • Requires pushing beds, wheelchairs and recliners in excess of approximately 200 pounds with assistance. Requires lifting, carrying, repositioning, and transferring residents who may weigh in excess of 200 pounds using proper body mechanics.
  • Occasionally participates in the development, revision, and implementation of nursing policies and procedures.
  • Requires unit specific orientation.
  • Occasionally requires assembling, operating, checking, and maintaining equipment; place work orders for client-owned electrical equipment, department repairs and faulty equipment.
  • Requires attendance of various meetings and participation on committees as required.
  • Actively participates in in-service programs (12 hours annually), in Quality Assurance programs and CQI, cross training; attends all mandatory classes as required; completes unit-specific competencies.
  • Occasionally requires assignments to other units/shifts as hospital needs require.
  • Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.
*Sign on for full time positions Pay Range: $90,000-$95,000/annual Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
