Job Summary

We are seeking a RN Unit Supervisor

Hours: 1130pm - 730am

Days: Monday - Friday

Responsibilities:

Management of Nursing Personnel

  • Provides leadership and direction to nursing personnel in accordance with organizational/ departmental goals
  • Counsels employees, taking appropriate educations and/or disciplinary action inclusive of termination as necessary
  • Schedules staff in a manner that promotes optimal use of staff (including covering call-ins etc.)
  • Informs DNS of personnel activities and problems on a timely basis

Management of Nursing Department

  • Manages the deliver of resident care, maximizing efficiency and quality
  • Perform acute illness/injury assessment; and treatment, physical assessment of elders; observe signs and symptoms associated with changes in the elders physical and emotional health
  • Coordinates follow up care with physicians, other professionals, and community agencies
  • Transcribes and interprets physicians orders for accuracy and ensures that medications have been ordered, documents in the medical record
  • Collaborates with the facilities Infection Control Nurse to meet standards to include but not limited ACIP, CDC, OSHA, and DOH.
  • Initiates development and implementation of resident care standards, policies and procedures to meet DOH/ HCFA regulations.
  • Monitors adherence to resident care standards through QA/QI process.
  • Interprets policies/ procedures/ regulations to staff.
  • Assists in directing the process that facilitates the completion of required documentation i.e.: MDS /Care Plan, PRI, MAR, Treatments Sheets, Medical updates, Roster Matrix, etc.
  • Assures effective communication with the resident, family, and health care team.
  • Maintains the highest level of customer service.
  • Ensures a safe secure environment for residents, staff and visitors.
  • Directs the data collection of all complaint investigations, incident reports and critical resident investigations, summarizes information and takes appropriate action after consultation with the Director of Nursing.
  • Keeps DON informed of resident care problems or issues, and participates in the development of an action plan to address them.

Leadership

  • Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, utilizes management skills to accomplish facility goals.
  • Maintains the facility at DOH survey readiness at all times.
  • Analyzes the problems, plan resolution strategies, implement plans and evaluate outcomes.
  • Assists in the development of the unit schedules according to published time frames, utilizing staff effectively.
  • Effectively utilizes the counseling process with employees, significant issues reviewed with the DON.
  • Fosters problem-solving abilities of staff.
  • Supports facility management and staff by facilitating change in a positive manner.

Education

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates the on-going educational needs of nursing staff.
  • Assures the orientation process of all new nursing employees in collaboration with Unit Managers / Supervisors/ Nurse Educator.
  • Shares current knowledge and up to date clinical expertise with staff through formal and informal education.
  • Provides for on-going evaluation and achievement of staff clinical competencies.
  • Participate in, and attend various committees, and workshops of the facility as assigned.
  • Participate in and promote a safe work setting.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold valid Registered Nurse (RN) License in NY State
  • Previous experience in nursing or other medical fields with LTC experience
  • Familiarity with medical software (SIGMA) and equipment
  • Ability to build rapport with patients
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
