Our Sign Shop is critical in supporting our projects by producing high-quality traffic control and road signage. As a Sign Shop Assistant, you will be responsible for fabricating, processing orders, and organizing the production of road construction signs. This is not a graphic design role; the signs you will create are based on clearly defined specifications, such as street names, regulatory signs, and traffic control materials, following established fonts, spacing, and layouts. You will enter information into specialized software, operate machines such as plotters and printers, and ensure timely production and shipping of materials.
What You'll Do:
Sign Production. Create road and traffic signs by entering specific information (e.g., street names) into printers and plotters. Ensure all signs meet established specifications for font type, spacing, and size.
Order Management. Take and process sign orders from internal and external customers, both over the phone and in person. Accurately fill out sales tickets and manage payment processes (including running credit cards).
Customer Assistance. Load signs and materials for customers picking up orders and assist with shipping logistics for larger orders via FedEx, AAA Cooper Transportation, or Vulcan Trucking departments.
Inventory Management. Maintain accurate inventory of sign materials, perform monthly inventory checks, and ensure the shop is well-organized. Manage purchase orders (POs) and receive materials into the system when they arrive.
Shop Organization. Keep the sign shop clean and orderly, ensuring all tools and materials are properly stored. Perform environmental inspections on the yard and ensure compliance with BMP (Best Management Practices) and stormwater runoff regulations.
Purchasing & Supplier Relations. Request quotes from suppliers, place purchase orders for needed materials, and build strong relationships with vendors.
Collaboration. Work with the project teams to ensure that material use is properly reported and documented for each project. Complete and submit daily forms, including inventory transfers and intercompany transactions.
Skills You'll Need:
Technical Skills. Familiarity with operating printers, plotters, and other sign production machinery. Ability to learn and use sign-making software.
Organizational Skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks, including order processing, inventory tracking, and customer assistance.
Customer Service. Excellent communication skills for customer interaction, processing orders, and assisting with material pickups.
Physical Requirements. Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs and work in a shop environment.
