Commercial Roofing Safety Manager:

The Safety Manager Role:
Maintains, develops, enhances, advises on and Implements policies, programs and practices relating to safety of personnel within the company.
- Working closely with various departments and managers , increasingly in a consultancy roles to understand and implement policies and procedures.
- Liaising with Management involved in policy areas such as staff performance and health and safety
- Develop and implementing policies on issues like working conditions, performance management , and corrective actions
- Owns the process of identifying, measuring and managing all insurance programs , claims and loss control activities
- Management and processing of all general liability, workers compensation, auto, and property claims
- Identifying exposures and recommendations and implementation of solutions and approved programs
- Manage safety programs, training requirements, certifications, etc.
- On-site visits to monitor safety requirements.
- Key functions include conducting regular safety training sessions, performing site inspections to identify hazards, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, investigating and documenting incidents, and recommending corrective actions.
- The Safety Director also collaborates with management to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Safety Manager Job Requirements:
- Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Create and maintain comprehensive safety programs that are aligned with OSHA, state-specific safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Conduct Training: Lead regular safety training sessions and toolbox talks for employees, ensuring all workers are knowledgeable about proper safety protocols.
- Safety Inspections: Conduct regular on-site inspections of roofing projects to ensure compliance with safety standards, identify potential hazards, and ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate any workplace accidents, injuries, or near misses, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Compliance: Ensure all safety programs and practices comply with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other relevant regulatory standards.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate records of safety training, incidents, and inspections. Prepare regular reports on safety performance for executive leadership.
- Employee Engagement: Foster a safety-first culture throughout the company by engaging employees in safety initiatives and encouraging feedback.
- Risk Assessment: Identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks associated with roofing projects. Develop and implement job-specific hazard analyses.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response procedures, ensuring that employees are trained and prepared to respond to emergencies effectively.
- Contractor and Vendor Safety: Ensure that subcontractors and vendors working on company projects adhere to company safety standards and protocols.
- Safety Audits: Coordinate and lead safety audits, both internal and external, to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Budgeting: Manage the safety department's budget, including purchasing safety equipment and training materials.
- Team Collaboration: Work with other departments, including HR, Operations, and Project Management, to integrate safety into all aspects of the business.
Safety Manager Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required. OSHA 500 Certification preferred. CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or other relevant safety certifications are preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of safety management experience in the construction or roofing industry.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, roofing safety standards, and accident investigation techniques.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively with field and office teams. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to visit job sites, including climbing ladders and working at heights.
- Occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, walking, or bending for extended periods.
Work Environment:
- Mix of office and field environments. Frequent travel to job sites required.
Base salary between $90k-$100k with bonus structure, benefits, company vehicle and more!
