$19.82 - $31.71 Hourly$41,218 - $65,949 AnnuallyThis position is a Pay Band 60Posting DetailsOur mission is to protect the integrity of New Mexico's livestock industry. Our team of about sixty full time inspectors and another sixty full and part time deputies continuously patrol and perform inspections around our state to help keep our livestock free from disease and safe from theft. We are also the office of the State Veterinarian, whose team collaborates with various government and private sector partners to ensure that our state remains free of diseases.This posting will be used for ongoing recruitment and may close at any time. Why does the job exist?This position will protect New Mexico's livestock from loss, theft, injury, and disease by conducting inspections to ensure ownership and health in accordance with Chapter 77.2 and NMAC 21.30 How does it get done?Conduct /schedule inspections for verification of ownership by identifying brands, tags, tattoos or paint markings and issuing proper transportation certificates. Inspect imported livestock and health certificates to ensure compliance with NM livestock regulations. Inspect livestock for visible signs of infectious and contagious disease and report to the proper authorities.Assist federal regulatory agencies, other state agencies and the New Mexico Livestock Board veterinary staff in conducting investigations involving health violations, health inspections, quarantines, health data, etc.Prepare reports and maintain records and logs of inspections, monies received, livestock movement, sales, inventories of expenses, materials used and activity schedules. Who are the customers?This position will serve the industry in District 5 and other districts as assigned. Ideal CandidateExperience in ranching, livestock and/or agriculture.Experience controlling large groups of animals in a relatively confined space.Experience in protecting yourself in an adverse livestock situation. Minimum QualificationHigh School Diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years of livestock, agriculture and/or law enforcement related experience. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below. If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of semester hours in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.Employment RequirementsMust possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. This position is a safety sensitive position and requires pre-employment and random drug testing. Applicants must be willing to relocate anywhere within the state. Employment offers are contingent on a successful background check and drug screen. (Applicants for this position will be required to participate successfully in a written and field performance test to be considered further in the application process.) Working ConditionsThis position requires working with and around livestock. Frequent standing, bending, lifting, sitting and driving a state vehicle are required. Work is performed outdoors in inclement weather with heavy lifting of 50 lbs. or more. Erratic, seasonal hours. Schedule may require weekend and holiday work.
