Job Description:

Macmillan Learning is looking for an experienced Royalties Manager responsible for the management, preparation, analysis, review and issuance of accurate and timely royalty statements to authors, agents, and other rights holders. This is an opportunity to contribute and have a significant impact to the implementation of a new Intellectual Property Rights & Royalties system; ML is currently going through the migration & testing phase of the project with a third party solution provider. After go-live, responsibilities will include the review and application of contract terms into advance and royalty payments, managing payment requests, extraction and interface of data relevant to the royalty and support systems, and preparation of royalty calculations support and analysis. This position will manage the overall royalties process for Macmillan Learning, and will interact with various departments in the organization as well as external agents and authors.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Prepare timely royalty statements and related activity files.

* Review contracts and payee setup in the royalty system.

* Review and analyze sales data prior to interfacing to the royalty system.

* Post expenses/fees/deductions/chargebacks to the royalty system.

* Complete initial and subsequent reviews of royalty statements to ensure accuracy.

* Distribute statements to editorial teams and business units for review.

* Calculate and record reserves for returns in accordance with contract terms and company policies.

* Prepare manual adjustments and statements when required.

* Interact with business units and other departments to resolve issues.

* Process new contracts and amendments on a regular basis. Review, code and approve all advance and payment requests.

* Comply with US and foreign tax withholdings as well as reporting and filing requirements related to advances, royalty, and subrights payments.

* Handle statement recipients' inquiries and requests.

* Prepare ad hoc reports/analyses as needed.

Required qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree.

* 5+ years experience with royalty contracts, statement preparation, and accounting.

* Demonstrated history being detail-oriented, analytical, and exercising good judgment.

* Experience communicating complex financial information verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.

* Proficient with Microsoft Excel, databases and system queries.

* Experience applying excellent organizational skills.

* Experience effectively managing change, delays, and unexpected events.

* Demonstrated focus on problem resolution.

* Experience applying ability to manage high volumes of data, meet deadlines, and multi-task.

* Experience meeting challenges with resourcefulness.

* Motivated and disciplined with high personal and professional standards of integrity and ethics.

Preferred qualifications:

* Experience in publishing or education software industries.

* Proficiency with Vista and/or Fadel's IPM royalty platforms.

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance.

Salary range: $80,000 - $95,000/year

Exemption Status: Exempt

Physical requirements:

Must be able to concentrate for long periods, must be able multi-task, work more than 40 hours a week at times when needed. Must be able to travel up to 5% of the time.

The position is eligible for remote employment, but preference will be given to applicants located in New York City and willing to work from the office at 120 Broadway at least one day per week. Remote employment excludes the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming. Relocation assistance is not provided.
