Position Summary:

  • Works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders
  • Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to meet patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status. Provides age-appropriate education, explains procedures and orients the patient for either in center or home sleep apnea testing.
  • Determines final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
  • Provides on-site and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education, selects the appropriate equipment and calibrates for proper functioning
  • Oversees other sleep center staff - Technicians, students and trainees
  • Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.

Sleep Study Procedures

  • Follows procedural protocols, such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration
  • Perform appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and make required adjustments.
  • Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  • Implements appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration.
  • Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
  • Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) standards
  • Demonstrate adherence to AASM scoring parameters; identify artifact, inadequate signals and equipment failures and generate an accurate report.

What you'll need:

  • Previous Sleep Lab experience
  • Current license from New York Education Department to practice as Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST).
  • Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) credential desirable.
  • Must hold or obtain BLS/CPR Certification or obtain within orientation period

Pay Range:

  • $32.00 - $53.70 per hour
  • Shift differential
  • Sign on bonus
  • Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
