Job Description:
Description RPSGT Calibrates and adjusts the recording apparatus. Selects proper montages and special monitoring techniques as needed. Obtains standard recordings recognizing and eliminating artifacts. Properly applies needed respiratory equipment as ordered by physician and uses proper settings as instructed. Applies appropriate EKG, EMG, and EOG monitoring electrodes. Places and securely attaches recording transducers to measure airflow, respiratory effort, and oximetry. Performs physiological calibrations, verifies patient maneuvers, and records. Institutes “lights out” and notes patient data. Monitors the polysomnogram. Recognizes and records clinical and physiological events. Notes and corrects equipment malfunctions. Monitors and changes patient's body position as needed to obtain the required sleep/wake data. Carefully wakes patient and records post-test physiological calibrations. Removes electrodes and transducers and assists patient with hygiene as necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patient's medical problems, especially cardiac dysrhythmia's, respiratory events, and seizures. Ensures safety and welfare of patients, including those pediatric and psychiatric patients with special needs. Checks availability and function of emergency equipment. RRT Administers respiratory care and diagnostic procedures and therapies as assigned by the Department Manager or appropriate supervisor to include, but not limited to: Humidity and Aerosol therapy; CPT/Flutter; IPPB; Oxygen therapy; SVNs; USNs; Suctioning; Oximetry; ABGs; MDIs; PEFR; EKGs; Bi-Pap therapy; Calorimetry; Trach Care; Incentive Spirometry. Performs CPR and is currently certified for basic life support by AHA. Understands and practices safe respiratory care techniques. Adheres to all universal precautions. Is able to assess, plan, and provide individualized care for patients in compliance with physician's orders, taking into account the metal status, development, and physical needs of each patient based on age, i.e., neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics. Performs specialized skills involved in advanced life support or in intensive care utilizing additional knowledge in bedside monitoring, management and weaning from mechanical ventilation, ABGs, and nutritional assessments. Collects and interprets arterial blood gases and attests to the competency to perform this procedure according to department Policies & Procedures. Performs EKGs according to department Policies & Procedures. Performs PFT's according to department Policies & Procedures. Performs Stress Testing according to department Policies & Procedures. Performs EEG's according to department Policies & Procedures. Performs Holter and/or Event monitoring according to department Policies & Procedures. Administers drugs in accordance with department Policies & Procedures and attests to the competency to perform those procedures. Is aware of hazards/ contraindications associated with use of such drugs. Performs oxygen and equipment rounds in accordance with department Policies & Procedures. Requirements Education Required: High School Licenses & Certifications Required: L-Resp Care Pro L-RPSGT Preferred: C-RRT-SDS C-BLS
