* Be responsible for keeping equipment in optimum operating condition by coordinating maintenance and repair with an on-staff fleet mechanic.
* Ensure safe and steady production of the work.
* Excavate utility trenches, sand pad, and backfill.
* Switch attachments on equipment in a safe manner and ensure all attachments are accounted for with the machine.
* Compact with hoe-pack and/or rapid ram on trench lines and concrete pad installations.
* Handle aggregate with loader.
* Be able to slope and bank trench lines according to OH & S safe trenching.
* Handle mechanical loading/unloading of electrical materials as required.
* Clean and lubricate equipment.
* Assist in field labor as required.
* Ability to proficiently operate three or more types of heavy equipment such as a backhoe, track hoe, scrapers, dozer, excavator, loader, rock trucks, compactors, articulated trucks, crushers, and/or motor graders with or without GPS.
* Uses scrapers, bulldozers, rollers, and backhoes to excavate and move earth.
* May also be involved in the repair and maintenance of machinery.
* Performs pre-trip inspections on assigned equipment daily.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
* 4-5 recent years' experience working as a Rubber Tire Backhoe Operator.
* 4-5 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
* Active driver's license.
* Knowledge of civil construction. blueprint reading and following specification guidelines.
* Understand grading markers and line assignments for work planning.
* Have an understanding of locate markers and locate slip reading.
* Must have a safety-first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures is required.
* Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
* Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
* High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Physical Requirements:
* Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions. Regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
* The work environment periodically exposes the employees to high asphalt levels of noise and dust that are typically associated with a construction project.
* Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as grease, gasoline, diesel fuel, and hot asphalt mix.
* Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
* Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
