Teacher Location: Southampton County Public Schools Reports To: Principal Job Summary: The Middle School S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Teacher is responsible for providing integrated instruction in the STEM disciplines to middle school students. This role involves developing and delivering engaging, interdisciplinary lessons that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and hands-on learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Planning and Delivery: - Develop and implement a comprehensive STEM curriculum that aligns with state and national standards.
- Provide instruction across the STEM disciplines, integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into cohesive lessons and projects.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including project-based learning, experiments, simulations, and technology-enhanced instruction, to engage students and enhance their understanding of STEM concepts.
Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring: - Assess and evaluate student performance through projects, quizzes, tests, assignments, and classroom activities.
- Monitor and document student progress, providing timely feedback and support to address academic needs and promote growth.
- Adjust instructional strategies and interventions based on assessment data and individual student needs.
Curriculum Development and Enhancement: - Develop and update instructional materials, lesson plans, and resources to enhance the STEM curriculum.
- Incorporate new trends, technologies, and innovative practices into the curriculum to provide relevant and engaging learning experiences.
- Design and implement enrichment activities and interdisciplinary projects to extend learning opportunities for advanced students.
Hands-On Learning and Lab Management: - Create and maintain a safe and organized STEM classroom and laboratory environment.
- Manage and oversee the use of scientific equipment, technology, and materials, ensuring they are used effectively and safely.
- Implement and enforce safety procedures and protocols for laboratory activities and technology use.
Student Engagement and Support: - Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, curiosity, and collaboration.
- Address and manage behavioral issues in a fair and consistent manner, providing support to help students develop self-regulation skills.
- Provide additional support and resources to students who need extra help or enrichment.
Collaboration and Communication: - Collaborate with colleagues, including special education teachers and other subject-area teachers, to support students' diverse needs and ensure a cohesive educational experience.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school meetings, and other events to build strong relationships with families.
Professional Development and Growth: - Stay current with advancements in STEM education, instructional strategies, and educational technology through professional development.

Administrative Tasks: - Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and other necessary documentation.
- Prepare and submit reports, lesson plans, and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Manage classroom supplies and resources, ensuring they are used effectively and efficiently.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in STEM Education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Valid state teaching certification in STEM Education or secondary education.
- Previous experience teaching STEM subjects at the middle school level preferred.
- Strong knowledge of STEM concepts, instructional strategies, and best practices in education.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and STEM-related software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift and carry up to 25 pounds of educational materials and equipment.
- Ability to perform tasks involving manual labor, such as setting up laboratory experiments and managing supplies.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a classroom and laboratory setting.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for school functions, STEM fairs, and professional development.
