JOB SUMMARY:Provides a variety of services for those living in a Safe Haven Residential facility. Such services include, but are not necessarily limited to, training in living skills, transportation to and from activities, counseling, medication management, and housekeeping assistance. Maintains proper records, receipts and other documentation as prescribed by regulation, policy or procedure. Participates in daily operations as requested by Safe Haven Residential Supervisor. Provides specialized substance abuse recovery services to individuals in recovery from server mental health disorders and co-occurring substance use disorder and their families. Serves as liaison with other substance abuse treatment providers serving this population.JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Completes and maintains appropriate and quality documentation including assessments and service implementation plans for all facility consumers with co-occurring disorders, especially related to developing interventions that respond to the person's state of treatment and motivation for recovery from substance use disorders.
- Provides individual and group counseling sessions, social rehabilitation, counseling and activities and family services as needed. Plans, conducts and documents sessions in accordance with policy, practice and/or procedure. Maintains knowledge of self-help and recovery approaches for both disorders. Implements and teaches effective techniques that enhance motivation to change and assists consumers with progressing through states of treatment.
- Assists Safe Haven Residential Supervisor in conducting orientation and providing training of facility's new staff. Supervises Overnight Residential and Behavioral Health Technicians, ensuring they receive proper support, training and counseling. Assists, when assigned, with scheduling to ensure adequate coverage at all times.
- Maintains behavioral and intervention contracts, reports service notes, progress summaries and activity reports, etc. Participates in comprehensive service implementation plan meetings, treatment team meetings, staffing, ITM's etc.
- Participates and ensures that ORT and BHT staff maintains an accurate accounting of all controlled medications. Completes proper medication records as necessary. Distributes medications to residents, reporting any observed problems to Supervisor and/or other appropriate official.
- Provides residents personally and/or in conjunction with other staff assistance, guidance, instruction and training in tasks relating to the development, reinforcement, and maintenance of basic living skills and behaviors necessary to perform daily living functions independently and with an acceptable level of competence. Plans, conducts and documents sessions in accordance with policy, practice, and/or procedure.
- Maintains verbal and/or written communications with outside agencies, community service providers, agency staff, case managers, family members and/or others as appropriate and necessary regarding matters related to resident welfare. Records in appropriate log, journal, or report, observations regarding resident behavior, unusual activities/events that may be proper to communicate to other staff, and/or information that is deemed appropriate to ensure the safe and effective operation of the facility.
- Provides individual and group counseling sessions, social rehabilitation and counseling/activities. Plans, conducts and documents sessions in accordance with policy, practice, and/or procedure.
- Maintains productivity levels and completes required documentation within established timelines.
- May temporarily function in the role of Acting Safe Haven Residential Supervisor when requested and assigned by the Safe Haven Residential Supervisor, Homeless and Veteran Services Administrator or Director of Community & Homeless Services.
- Responds to crisis situations by verbal or physical intervention techniques appropriate to the level of the situation at hand. Assists in the design and implementation of behavioral contracts.
- Operates agency or own vehicle to transport resident(s) to and from activities, events, appointments, as assigned or requested.
- Provides appropriate consideration, as directed, to those residents with special physical needs.
- Performs housekeeping chores as assigned/necessary which may include activities normally associated with proper maintenance of living quarters, i.e. vacuuming, dusting, washing, trash removal, wiping various surfaces, etc.
- Routes, as necessary, resident mail and/or interagency communications.
- Will comply with Compliance Plan and standards of conduct and report any non-compliance to the appropriate official.
- Will attend all required trainings and complete other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's degree required and certification as a Behavioral Health Technician (CBHT). Education must be from an accredited school, college, or university. CAP Certification a plus.A minimum of three years of paid experience in human services working with individuals who have a severe mental health and/or substance use disorders is required. Knowledge of mental illness, substance abuse issues, counseling techniques, behavior modification, and rehabilitation and treatment preferred. SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Good skills and demonstrated abilities in communication-verbal and written, interpersonal relations, teaching/instructing, counseling, coaching, training, basic math and language, record keeping, evaluating, organization and planning, following procedures/ instructions-verbal and/or written, crisis intervention and such others that are usually and customarily considered necessary for satisfactory completion of essential duties.PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Must comply with all work related rules and standards including, but not limited to attendance. Must not present a direct threat to the safety or health of self or others.WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Primarily indoor work with some exposure to outdoors when transporting/ accompanying residents to activities/events. Exposure to a potential physical hazard may occur when dealing with difficult residents. Overtime may be necessary from time to time.Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to life, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical activities including, but not necessarily limited to climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, talking, seeing, hearing, handling, sitting, reaching - above or below waist, driving, at varying frequency and intensity may be required to satisfactorily accomplish one or more of essential duties.EQUIPMENT AND SAFETY MATERIALS:May include, but may not necessarily be limited to standard household appliances, household cleaning materials, standard office supplies and equipment, telephone, automobile/van, food preparation equipment/materials.May include, but may not necessarily be limited to, use of vehicle seat belts, protective gloves/apron, weight (lifting) belt.
