Employment Days: 240 Days Summary: Under limited general guidance, perform responsible supervisory and managerial efforts to ensure that the department's trade sections are provided logistical and administrative support required for performing their responsibilities. The Safety and Security and Facilities performs responsible supervisory, budget execution, technical overview, logistical execution, and administrative work in coordinating and directing all safety, maintenance and building work orders for the school district. Work involves developing, implementing, coordinating, directing and supervising the safety and maintenance of school system buildings, grounds, and equipment; overseeing all repair and preventive maintenance work on buildings and all associated building systems; and monitoring work performed by contractors who supplement safety and maintenance personnel for repairs and services. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.A. or B.S. Degree or higher from an accredited institution in construction engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Six (6) to nine (9) years of supervisory and/or management experience in construction or building maintenance and school safety.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills,
  • knowledge, and abilities.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the SC Department of Motor Vehicles
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • MA Degree from an accredited institution in construction engineering, construction management, or a related field.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the SC Department of Motor Vehicles
  • Appropriate South Carolina driver's license for the weight and type of vehicles operated as required by the Department of Motor Vehicles
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements long range planning for the Safety of Schools and Maintenance Department and its employees.
  • Prepares and presents annual safety and maintenance budget proposals. Tracks safety and maintenance projects and schedules.
  • Manage all aspects of disrict security and safety.
  • Evaluates and creates reports regarding the condition of buildings and sites, making recommendations for improvements or modifications as necessary.
  • Evaluates and recommends methods to optimize usage of available space.
  • Coordinates the development of the school system's long-range facilities plan.
  • Develops and monitors facility standards to meet program needs.
  • Coordinates and supervises the preparation of specifications for construction needs.
  • Directs the overall technical training activities for safety, security, and maintenance personnel.
  • Oversees and reviews all applications for changes to buildings and grounds and approves (or denies) those applications.
  • Oversees and monitors all utilities: (water, electrical, sewer, and gas).
  • Coordinates all required inspections, fire inspections, fire alarm system inspections, sprinkler inspections, caf hood inspections, and bleacher inspections.
  • Ensures storage and security of materials.
  • Informs staff of changes in technology, laws, codes, or regulations regarding general facility safety and maintenance.
