**Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD)** has an immediate opening for a **Safety & Human Performance Lead** located at **Gerald Gentleman Station** in **North Platte** , Nebraska. Position closes January 3rd, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
This position will report to the Corporate Safety Manager.
**Position Summary**
The incumbent provides leadership and resolution of technical safety/health-related issues and interpretation of safety and health regulations, policies and procedures as an active member of the leadership team. The incumbent coordinates, monitors, enforces, and demands safety process improvements, OSHA compliance, and safety procedure/rule book compliance and partners with the leadership team to advertise, promote, and implement safety.
**Education, Training and Experience**
**Education:**
Bachelor's degree plus 2 years' experience as listed below (or) Associates or related degree plus 4 years' experience as described below (or) high school/GED plus 6 years' experience as described below.
**Prior Related Experience:**
Experience in a power plant or large production facility and/or in a Transmission, Distribution and Substation in a technical craft, operations, mechanical, electrical, I&C, or engineering position is required.
Professional level experience in leadership or industrial safety at an operating commercial power facility/electric utility is preferred.
**Licenses and/or Certifications**
The following certifications are desired:
OSHA Instructor in Occupational Safety and Health for Construction and/or General Industry (OSHA 500 and 501).
American Red Cross or Equivalent Instructor Certification in CPR and First Aid.
**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**
Provide safety ownership, leadership, visibility, and direction for the Safety and Human Performance program and culture. Serve as the Safety liaison between the site/area Leadership, Corporate Safety Manager, visitors, and vendors. Serve as the technical and regulatory expert on safety and Human Performance improvement issues. Maintain familiarity with OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926 requirements. Maintain close communication and participation with industry, District, and site-specific safety forums to stay abreast of safety needs, issues, and changes.
Review modification documentation, training modules, work requests, etc., for safety impact. Interpret safety and human performance standards for application to daily work practices. Assure District compliance to regulatory requirements relating to colleague safety by writing policies and procedures that establish required methods of job performance and restrictions to be followed by all supervisors, employees, and contractors. Supervise and enforce the administration and implementation of the Safety Handbook/Manual for compliance with state and federal regulations and NPPD policy.
Assure that the safety performance of the colleagues and contractors conforms with regulatory and contract requirements by supervising audits and inspections of safety programs and practices, monitoring results, and providing direction for corrective action. Respond to conditions related to programmatic safety issues and identify resolutions and corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
Prepare materials for safety meetings for employees and work groups. Provide leadership to safety committees on improving the effectiveness of safety and human performance processes. Lead and participate in apparent cause and root cause evaluations. Write investigation and inspection reports, training guides and materials and general correspondence.
Provide leadership on all aspects of industry-best safety and Human Performance improvement programs. This will include development of procedures, rules and the coordination of safety training requirements, implementation, etc.

**Salary Information** _-_ Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.
**Pay Grade -** 14 Monthly
**Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range:** $7,746.00 - $9,876.00
**Travel Required:** Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) _Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview._

**Retirement Savings**
NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options - a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee's hire date.
