DescriptionPerforms a variety of duties required to maintain a safe and secure environment in a school, an alternative learning center, or for adult and community education programs held during or after school, in the evening and/or on weekends; enforces regulations establishing a tobacco-, alcohol-, weapons-, and drug-free school setting; may monitor students in a self-contained setting.QualificationsRequired
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate, supplemented by specialized safety or security environment training.
- Some experience in school security.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- Must successfully complete compulsory certification training approved by the Virginia Center for School Safety within sixty (60) days of hire and renew certification annually.
- Applicants must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment.
- Required to work during- and after- school, evening, and/or weekend activities on an assigned flexible schedule.
- Knowledge of local, county, and state regulations requiring an alcohol-, drug-, weapons-, and tobacco-free environment.
- Skill in record keeping.
- Ability to control students and maintain a healthy school environment.
- Ability to monitor students and maintain appropriate task-oriented behavior.
- Ability to act as a liaison between students and teachers.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
