DESCRIPTION

The Safety Coordinator must assist in establishing and promoting the maintenance of a safe, accident free, healthy work environment. The Safety Coordinator is also responsible to help ensure the company is in compliance with local, state, and federal safety rules and regulations. This individual will also provide administrative support as assigned by the Safety Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Assist in formulating general health and safety policies and procedures to be followed by company personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.

* Assist in preparing appropriate documents for injury reporting and submit the material to the required agencies.

* Assist in conducting investigations of accidents and injuries and coordinate the preparation of material and evidence for reporting.

* Assist with New Hire Orientation as assigned.

* Assist in coordinating and facilitating the company safety teams and conduct regular meetings to communicate safety hazards and violations.

* Assist in conducting annual safety training for all employees required by law.

* Inspect and tour company properties and worksites to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards and recommend corrective or preventative measures where indicated.

* Maintain the SDS and ensure the information is current.

* Develop strong and respectful relationships with vendors and subcontractors on our properties and projects.

* Work with the insurance carrier to cut down on lost employee time and cut back on unjust claims as assigned.

* Devise, supervise, and coordinate training programs, which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness as assigned.

* Assist in implementing accident and loss prevention programs.

* Assist in preparing and administering a safety budget.

* Maintain safety department files and records per tasks assigned.

* Formulate environmental policies and procedures in accordance with the local, state, and federal laws as applicable as assigned.

* Establish annual workplace safety objectives and carryout those objectives as assigned.

* Identify loss producing conditions and practices and recommend the appropriate corrective action.

* Perform all other duties assigned and those that may be necessary to achieve company and department goals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

* Excellent understanding of safety rules and regulations set forth by local, state and federal laws.

* Completion of the OSHA General Industry or Construction Compliance Safety and Health 30-hour course.

* Must be actively involved in local safety organization(s).

* Strong leadership skills and ability to effectively enforce policies, procedures, and best practices.

* Must be able to work well with a diverse group of people and individuals.

* Must be able to effectively follow through.

* Must be able to carry out multi-task projects simultaneously.

* Professional, courteous etiquette.

* Excellent customer service, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.

* Ability to operate all standard office and copy center equipment.

* Must be flexible.

* Basic computer operation skills.

* Regular and consistent attendance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associates Degree; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
