SAFETY MANAGER FPC Bangor is working with a paper mill in New York looking for a Safety Manager to plan and implement all aspects of the safety program to ensure compliance with OSHA standards & principles. Will work with employees and leadership to ensure a safe, healthy and accident-free work environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: Act as a leader both internally and externally. Must be able to work cross-functionally within the organizational structure to ensure a cohesive and fluid exchange of information across all levels
- Assesses, develops and implements all safety policies and procedures to ensure that regulatory compliance and Company protocols are met.
- Actively responsible for increasing employee involvement in safety initiatives. Including supporting and leading safety committees, accident investigations, safety audits, etc.
- Point person for all OSHA updates, changes and rules. managers/supervisors, advises personnel of OSHA regulations and standards and ensures their compliance. Partner with facility operations leadership to investigate safety solutions to protect employees, enhance performance and reduce cost
- Lead safety focus and goal attainment. Interpret and implement any companywide safety practices and procedures.
- Use analytical skills to determine incident trends and focus areas.
Identifies and recommends safety training needs for all employees and departments. Develops appropriate methods to implement programs. Manages Occupational Health staff to ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA and other regulatory guidelines throughout the occupational health program. Case management and administration of Worker's Compensation program, return to work program, drug testing, and DBL & FMLA management. Available around-the-clock to respond, if necessary, to emergencies that may occur at the facility. Work with contractors to ensure compliance with safety standards. Establish working relationships with local emergency responders
- Ensure OSHA and other regulatory record keeping requirements are met and up to date for the facility
- Manage hourly Safety Partner position and Co-Chair Join Union/Management Safety Committee.
- Perform other essential responsibilities as deemed necessary.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene or Safety Management preferred. A relevant degree and commensurate experience will be considered. CERTIFICATIONS: 500/501 OSHA, First Aid / CPR , Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Preferred EXPERIENCE :
- Minimum 5 years' experience in industrial safety setting. Paper industry experience preferred.
- Industrial hygiene techniques, OSHA regulations and record keeping ability requirements; DOT regulations; and knowledge of other applicable federal and state regulations.
- Administration ability required. Must be expert level user of Microsoft Office specifically Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
- Possess outstanding analytical skills and the ability to translate analysis into strategic action
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Must possess the ability to work with wide range of backgrounds and levels with the organization
- Enjoys driving and leading teams. Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
