Position Overview
The primary mission of this role is to cultivate a robust safety culture and a healthy work environment, with a strong focus on achieving zero incidents and injuries. As the subject matter expert, this critical position is responsible for creating a safe workplace by developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs, enforcing policies, and conducting training, inspections, audits, and job safety analyses to ensure compliance with company standards as well as local, state, federal, and other regulatory requirements. This position will work extensively in both warehouse and office settings and will collaborate closely with leaders across the organization to support and achieve safety goals.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the safety team, ensuring the effective application of safety policies and procedures.
- Support strategic planning and provide guidance on safety initiatives across the organization.
- Foster a culture focused on safety awareness and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain strong communication and collaboration on safety matters with employees, managers, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other relevant safety standards.
- Oversee CTPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) compliance and security measures.
- Conduct routine audits and inspections to address and correct any compliance gaps.
Safety Programs and Training:
- Assist in the selection and implementation of an EHS and LMS platform that aligns with the organization's strategy.
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs and training sessions for all employees.
- Conduct new hire safety orientations and ongoing training to reinforce safety protocols.
Risk Assessment and Incident Management:
- Perform regular risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
- Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses to develop prevention strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents and safety performance metrics, and track open workers compensation cases in collaboration with People and Culture.
Fire and Life Safety:
- Oversee fire safety protocols, including fire drills, evacuation plans, and emergency response procedures.
- Ensure fire safety equipment is regularly inspected and maintained.
Physical Security:
- Develop and implement physical security measures to protect employees, assets, and facilities.
- Coordinate with security personnel to monitor and address security concerns or vulnerabilities.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with management, People & Culture, and other departments to integrate safety policies across all operational areas.
- Communicate safety updates, findings, and recommendations to senior management and employees.
Other Duties:
- Actively support the organizations commitment to zero accidents and injuries.
- Integrate safety processes with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other safety management tools.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of safety experience, ideally in a warehouse or multi-facility environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, CTPAT compliance, physical security, and fire and life safety protocols.
- Proven leadership abilities and experience managing and developing a team.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Preferred certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
- Proficiency with safety management software and MS Office applications.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience in safety, security, risk management, compliance, or environmental health.
- OSHA 30-Hour certification required.
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
