Job Description: Safety Manager - Utility SubcontractorLocation: New York Area Industry: Utility Subcontractor (Substations, Transmission Cable, and Cable Pulling) Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Safety Manager to join our team. The Safety Manager will be responsible for overseeing safety procedures and protocols at various job sites, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and fostering a culture of safety. The primary scope of work includes managing safety operations for projects related to substations and transmission cable installations, focusing on tasks like cable pulling. This role is based in the New York area and requires hands-on involvement in safety audits, client interaction, and site safety oversight. Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all safety procedures and regulations are strictly followed on-site, particularly for substation and transmission cable projects.
  • Conduct regular on-site safety audits, inspections, and assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce safety programs tailored to utility subcontractor work, focusing on substation operations and cable pulling tasks.
  • Provide guidance and training to site personnel on safety protocols and best practices.
  • Work closely with project management teams, clients, and contractors to ensure that safety standards are maintained across all operations.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain and update safety documentation, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, NYC Safety Standards).
  • Stay informed about current safety trends and regulations related to the utility and construction industry.
Requirements:
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in safety management within the construction or utility industry, preferably with a focus on substations, cable pulling, or transmission cable projects.
  • Certification: CUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional) certification preferred or SST (Site Safety Training) certification.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, safety best practices in utility work, and New York safety regulations.
  • Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to conduct audits, manage safety plans, and train site personnel.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be comfortable working on-site in various weather conditions and performing physical inspections of job sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with utility subcontractors or large construction clients.
  • Proven track record of improving safety metrics on previous projects.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
