JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for planning, executing, and upholding a range of safety and training initiatives to ensure the utmost safety for patients and staff. This involves recognizing potential hazards, enforcing safety measures for a secure environment, and delivering training to staff on optimal safety practices and emergency protocols. Moreover, Safety Officers must keep abreast of current regulations and standards, guarantee compliance, and adjust safety policies as needed. Their primary objective is to prevent accidents and injuries while promoting a culture of safety and awareness throughout the organization.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Cultivates a culture of safety among staff by promoting and maintaining a safe working environment:
* Recommends procedures and approaches to safety based on reports of incidents, accidents, and other data gathered from personnel.
* Oversee NorthShore Health Center's safety program for compliance with safety standards, ordinances, laws and regulatory agency (i.e. OSHA) requirements.
* Monitors NorthShore Health Center's safety program to minimize risk to patients, visitors, and staff; tracks and analyzes accidents and injuries; develops safety training programs; instructs staff in safety and accident prevention; conducts training programs; develops and implements safety policies and procedures.
* Assists department heads and administrators in enforcing safety regulations and codes.
* Completes Hazard Vulnerability Assessment for all NorthShore Health Center locations and communities.
* Manages drilling operations in collaboration with the Risk Manager.
* Support the Risk Manager by assisting in conducting regular building and grounds surveys to identify code violations, hazards, and incorrect work practices and procedures.
* Assists in the development of safety training for staff and reviews that staff have had the safety training.
* Collaborate with the clinical team to conduct FIT Testing for clinical staff members.
* Participate in regular safety meeting to discuss recent accidents and injuries; collaborate to determine appropriate corrective action.
* Maintains Safety Committee who meets monthly.
* Represents NorthShore Health Center as the OSHA Employee Representative in conjunction with the Risk Manager.
* Assists in maintaining incident reports in Healthcare SafetyZone along with other necessary records.
* Carry out additional job-related tasks, projects, and duties as needed.
Qualifications
* Associate or Bachelor's degree, ideally in Health Administration or Business.
* Four years of experience in a healthcare environment, with a preference for FQHC experience
* Knowledge and experience in patient safety
A strong comprehension of the profession enables effective training or instruction of others, as well as serving as a resource for employees.
