Safety Coordinator Job Summary

Our company is looking for a Safety Coordinator that has experience in construction safety. Your primary function in this role will be to reduce the risk of workplace injury. This will be accomplished by implementing safe work plans, JHAs, training workers, conducting regular inspections, being on the lookout for hazards, reviewing hazards with workers, enforcing safety rules, recordkeeping in addition to other items. You should be familiar with the OSHA Construction Safety Standard (29 CFR 1926) along with general accepted practices in industrial construction.

Experience with work on industrial construction projects including projects with MTA, NYCT, TBTA, LIRR, PANYNJ, DOT is very helpful.

Safety Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily work huddles,
  • Review tasks being conducted and hazards to be encountered
  • Conducts continuous site inspectionspresent that day; conducts continuous site inspections to ensure safe work plans and safety plans are followedand implemented fully;
  • Conduct weekly toolbox safety meetings to review specific safety topics in-depth
  • Enforces safety rules by giving verbal warnings to workers (and documenting them)
  • Enforces safety rules by giving written violations when necessary
  • File accident/near-miss reports
  • Possibly investigate (with assistance) accident/near-misses
  • File daily report documenting activities and safety actions for the day
  • Contact management and emergency personnel as needed

Safety Coordinator Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • OSHA 30-hour in Construction
  • Knowledge of industry-specific safety standards
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience in construction
  • NYC DOB 4-Hour Scaffold User

Additional Preferred Optional Qualifications

  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) from BCSP
  • HAZWOPER
  • AAMP C-3/C-5 Lead Competent Person is a plus
  • NJ Lead Supervisor is a plus
  • NYS Asbestos Inspector Initial
  • NYCT Track Training
  • 90 Days of ROW Track Experience
