JOB SUMMARY
Safety & Security Assistant will provide administrative support to the Safety and Security department, ensuring smooth and efficient operations. This role involves assisting with inspections, incident reporting, facility access and monitoring, and management of all safety and security records and files.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the implementation of safety and security policies and procedures
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments
- Help in organizing and conducting training sessions on safety practices
- Compile incident and accident reports and recommend preventive measures
- Performing administrative and secretarial tasks including maintaining all safety and security records
- Participate in all safety meetings and audits
- Ensure all safety equipment and tools are in proper working condition
- Assist in the investigation of accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker's compensation claims
- Support compliance with all safety regulations
- Manage access control, which include employee security badges
- Monitoring security systems
- Providing immediate assistance during emergencies
- Assisting with emergency preparedness drills and training
- Handling security screening applications
- Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
EDUCATION: Degree in Safety or Security preferred, High School Diploma with proven experience as Safety or Security Assistant
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of a 1-2 years administrative or related experience in supporting an organization.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of health and safety policies, procedures, and legislation to ensure compliance within the organization.
- Exceptional attention to detail for identifying potential risks or hazards in the workplace and taking appropriate measures to mitigate them.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively disseminate health and safety information across all levels of the organization.
- Problem-solving skills to promptly address any safety or security issues that arise, developing and implementing effective solutions.
- Observation skills, an ability to conduct risk assessments, safety inspections and audits to ensure a safe working environment.
- Interpersonal skills for working closely with various departments and teams, providing safety and security training, and promoting a culture of safety awareness within the organization.
- Administrative skills for maintaining accurate records of incidents, inspections, and training sessions, as well as for preparing reports on safety and security performance.
- Physical abilities as required to perform safety inspections and respond to incidents on site

- This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do moderate physical work. To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC. The work environment for this position includes a community center environment with a medium to high noise level. Must be able to lift and carry 20 lbs.
