What does the Safety Specialist do?
  • Drive Experitec safety culture.
  • Developing, evaluating, recommending, and implementing comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and promote a safe working environment.
  • Conducting customer on-site safety audits including any customer dictated requirements.
  • Review and evaluate Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to determine appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) recommendations, collaborating closely with the team to ensure workplace safety and compliance.
  • Serving as the primary liaison between Experitec and customer safety departments, fostering clear communication and collaboration.
  • Conduct quarterly internal safety audits and lead Experitec / Emerson safety audits.
  • Ensuring all company policies and procedures fully comply with administrative, state, local, and federal laws and regulations, including OSHA, while overseeing timely and accurate reporting to maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Completing customer safety questionnaires and provide requested safety documentation (Vendor Qualifications).
  • Leading an Experitec Safety Committee across all territory offices, to facilitate a collaborative effort determining safety standards and implementation company wide.
  • Evaluating facilities and equipment to identify unsafe conditions that need improvement.
  • Maintaining safety incident and accident investigation records.
  • Manage third-party safety compliance platforms to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Ensure accountability for safety standards across company.
  • Proactively address and collaborate on observed safety non-conformances.
  • During major outage periods, travel to the site to represent Experitec.

Required Skills, Experience & Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree OR associate degree with two or more years of relevant work experience OR High School Diploma or equivalent with four or more years of relevant work experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years of industrial, manufacturing, and/or field safety related work experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), Outlook email, and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work in office and/or on customer sites Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm and to occasionally work weekends and additional hours upon request.
  • Ability to drive for the company with a valid driver's license and the ability to pass driving record background check.
  • Ability to utilize personal vehicle for the majority of work travel AND ability to rent a car when requested by supervisor for work travel.
  • Ability to independently travel up to 25% of the time including overnights and weekends as needed. This may include several weeks at the customer site during outages to act as safety advocate. Flexibility to travel with little notice to meet customer needs.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing and data center environments with shifting and extreme temperatures, varying work heights and varying noise levels.
  • Ability to wear PPE as appropriate for potential environmental hazards.
  • Ability to obtain required certifications within 6-months: Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC), forklift trainer certification, OSHA 30, and Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights up to 50 feet.
Preferred Skills, Experience & Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree OR Bachelor's degree in safety.
  • Certified Safety Professional certificate.
  • Associate degree with two or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Track record of suggesting process improvements to positively impact safety culture.
  • Three or more years of direct experience in an emergency response/safety related position.
  • One or more years of experience in occupation health and/or fire protection.
  • Currently possess and/or the ability to obtain EMT- Paramedic Certification, CPR certification, Confined Space Rescue Technician certification, Hazardous Materials Technician and/or Specialist certification.
  • Experience implementing and/or overseeing adoption of effective safety policies, programs and/or initiatives.
