Travel Percentage: Negligible Job Category: ManufacturingDescriptionDesigns, develops, implements and oversees the companys safety and health programs and procedures to safeguard site personnel and to ensure that all facilities are in compliance with local, state and national regulations. The Safety& Health Specialist will: identify and anticipate concerns and hazards; conduct safety audits of buildings, facilities, tools and equipment; determine the safety training requirements of site personnel; provide all necessary safety training; accident investigations to determine root cause, circumstances and contributing factors; develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrence; and maintains comprehensive knowledge of all relevant government and corporate safety regulations (OSHA). Additional duties include site security and Emergency Response Team oversight.QualificationsREQUIREMENTSMinimum ⠢ Bachelor's Degree in Safety & Health ⠢ Knowledge of: OSHA regulations, workers compensation, occupational health requirements⠢ At least 2 years of managing a facility safety and health program at a chemical, manufacturing, petroleum or equivalent industry⠢ Demonstrated skills in problem solving, Health & Safety process improvement, OSHA compliance programs, Workers compensation, and Health & Safety training.Preferred⠢ Associate Safety Professionals (ASP) or⠢ Certified Safety Professional (CSP)⠢ Additional education/training in environmental regulations including Clean Air Act, POTW, NPDES, RCRA, CERCLA and SARA etc. ⠢ Experience with maintaining VPP site certification⠢ Emergency Response⠢ Health & Safety Administration⠢ Georgia health & safety program administration, including workers compensation⠢ Prior supervisory experience. ⠢ Previous work experience with environmental compliance that includes Clean Air Act, POTW, NPDES, RCRA, CERCLA and SARA etc.LANGUAGE SKILLSReading/comprehension, speaking and writing at required education equivalency level. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business correspondence, technical/product information, policies/procedures or government regulations. Ability to complete written forms and write routine to complex procedures, reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in a group or individual setting.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.COMPUTER SKILLSProficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Electronic Mail.Proficiency in relevant SAP modules preferredCOMPLEXITYThe work includes varied duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods be applied to a broad range of activities and/or substantial depth of analysis within a particular area. Decisions include areas of uncertainty in approach, methodology, interpretation or evaluation resulting from such elements as continuing changes, technical developments, unknown phenomena or conflicting requirements. The work requires originating new techniques, establishing criteria, developing new information and understanding the technical nature of equipment and manufacturing processes.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work requires both sedentary and limited physical exertion to include sitting; walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books or small parts; driving an automobile, forklift, etc. Some occasional hands on duties require ability to lift 50 pounds. Work routinely requires speaking and hearing (expression or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words and perceiving sounds by ear).WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment requires normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, personal or commercial transportation methods, manufacturing and warehousing facilities. Requires use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. Must be able to work in office, manufacturing and warehousing environments. Manufacturing and warehouse facilities are not climate controlled. Generally, the work area is well lighted, heated and ventilated. May occasionally include work that requires special safety precautions such as working around moving parts, carts or machines or with irritant chemicals. Employee will be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, safety shoes, boots, goggles, gloves, safety glasses or shields.
