This individual facilitates in-house and client training courses, maintains & develops training materials, aids, records and schedules, while meeting requirements to obtain various instructor qualifications, as needed. Overnight travel is required, as needed, to deliver training within Western States Equipment Company's territory while also providing additional administrative support to the Talent Development Team.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Safety
- Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. As a leader and team member in the organization, it is critical to ensure all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
- Maintains clean/clutter free company vehicle and work areas to ensure safe environments for all WSE employees.
- Adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.
Training and Course Development
- Remains current in latest training trends and practices by seeking and participating in educational opportunities.
- Develops and delivers safety-based training curriculum for Western States' clients, internal and external.
- Actively seeks training and course opportunities within the scope of safety compliance and related training in alignment with WSE's business initiatives to provide services to internal and external clients.
- Coordinates and delivers safety training courses to Western States' internal/external clients including, but not limited to: Crane and Rigging, MSHA, First Aid, CPR & AED, Fall Protection, HazCom, LOTO, Respiratory Protection, Confined Space, PIT, Telehandler, MEWP, New Employee Safet Orientation, and other courses as required.
Administration and Reporting
- Supports learning management system safety course updates and registration process.
- Maintains training records, qualifications, certifications, etc., as they apply to the safety program and applicable regulations.
- Builds positive relationships by learning and understanding department workflows, the Western States business, the facilities, and the strategic direction of the safety program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SAFETY SUPPORT:
- Collaborates with employees and leaders to identify safety concerns and potential hazards in the workplace. Recommends safety improvements and solutions to enhance workplace safety and injury prevention.
- Coaches and educates the organization on safety policies and provides feedback regarding overall safety culture
- Potential to support additional safety functions, including but not limited to being a point of contact for incident response, collaborating and share ideas and observations which could support overall safety strategy and initiatives, and effectively messaging and implementing safety strategy objectives and initiatives with employees.
- Have a practical and personable approach while being visible and engaging with proactive safety campaigns as established by the safety strategy.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of individuals and personalities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to articulate well with a variety of people, presenting effectively to groups.
- Ability to utilize various learning management systems for development and delivery of training curriculum. (SABA, CAT DPC, etc.)
- Knowledge of Federal and State occupational safety regulations including OSHA, FRA, MSHA, EPA and health standards/ non-regulatory safety codes.
- Ability to obtain Part 48 MSHA Instructor certification.
- Ability to travel overnight as needed.
- Consistent attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Safety Management or equivalent safety related experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in training required.
- MSHA Part 48 Instructor Certification or ability to obtain, preferred.
- OSHA Outreach Instructor (Construction and General Industry) certifications preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of OSHA related training experience preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years CPR/First Aid training experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English)
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time along with walking, standing, climbing stairs, reaching pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. in accordance with Western States' Lifting Policy to include amount and approach.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
