Job Description:

The City of Bangor Public Works Department is currently seeking a Safety & Training Officer. Our departmental safety and training mission is to provide excellent safety and operational skills training to every employee so that they may, in turn, provide excellent public services to the City. The Public Works Department employs over 70 employees to provide efficient and effective public service to approximately 31,000 residents and 20,000 daily visitors. We provide extensive infrastructure support including maintaining approximately 300 lane miles of streets and 140 miles of sidewalks. We maintain underground pipes and basins, pave streets and sidewalks, maintain street signs, street lights, and traffic controls, manage stormwater flow, plant and maintain trees, paint traffic lines, sweep, plow, salt, and remove snow, among many, many other tasks in support of City of Bangor operations.

The incumbent will be required to maintain and grow our existing safety and operational training program. This program includes required regulatory training, task-specific safety training, and operational and equipment skills training. These trainings are provided to employees through a combination of web-based modules, classroom sessions, one-on-one sessions, and external trainer-led sessions. Our training program also includes a very successful private Commercial Driver License (CDL) school, Class A and Class B. This position is paid on the Professional and Technical (PAT) scale, Range 3. This scale has 11 steps from $26.52 to $35.58. Pay will depend on experience.
