PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Fire Watch Attendants have the responsibility to monitor activities inside and outside of a confined space. Work is usually performed with other workers.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES:
* Actively support the Company's commitment to safety and its Core Values.
* Represent the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
* Watch out for fire hazards in the workplace while work is performed by other employees.
* Maintain the conditions and requirements stated on the safety permit.
* Keep flammable materials from ignition sources.
* In the event of a fire, extinguish it immediately or turn on a fire alarm.
* Call 911 or emergency alarm number
* Stop operations if you find any hazardous conditions.
* Make sure you and other employees are aware of the exact location of fire equipment in the immediate area.
* Maintain constant means of communication.
* As much as possible, keep visual and voice contact with other employees.
* Before and during each shift, inspect the entire work area and look for potential release of flammable vapors or liquids.
* Be prepared to operate fire extinguishers, hydrants, fixed monitors, and hose carts anytime.
* Never leave job site while the work is being done. Conversely if you must leave, stop the job and notify workers that you are standing-by-for .
* When all operations are done, do not leave worksite unless you are sure that there are no hot sparks, burning embers, and other fire hazards. Return all fire fighting equipment to their original location. Remain at the work site 30 minutes after quitting and time to assure no fires have started.
* The Attendant shall know the hazards that may be faced during confined space entry, including information on the mode, signs or symptoms, and consequences of exposure. Confined space hole watch attendants are vigilant to hazards like toxic fumes, combustible gases, and entrapment risks.
* The attendant shall be aware of the possible behavioral effects of hazard exposure to entrants.
* Attendant must maintain an accurate account of entrants in the confined space.
* The attendant shall remain outside the confined space during confined space operations until relieved by another attendant.
* The attendant shall monitor activities inside and outside the confined space to determine if it is safe for the entrants to remain in the space and orders the entrants to evacuate the confined space immediately under an of the following conditions: if the attendant detects a prohibited condition; if the attendant detects the behavioral effects of hazard exposure; if the attendant detects a situation outside the confined space that could endanger the entrants; or if the attendant cannot effectively and safely perform all the required duties.
* The attendant shall summon rescue and other emergency services as soon as it is determined that entrants may need assistance to escape from the confined space.
* The attendant shall take the following actions when unauthorized persons approach or enter confined space during confined space operations; warn the unauthorized persons that they must stay away from the confined space; advise the unauthorized persons that they must exit immediately if they have entered the confined space; and inform the authorized entrants and the supervisor that unauthorized persons have entered the confined space.
* The attendant may perform non-entry rescues as specified by the employer's rescue procedure if trained to do so.
* Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervision.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Field environment. May be frequently exposed to wet, humid, outside weather conditions. Heavy winds, and strong smells, and vibration. Uses of hands to fingers, handle, feel or reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to focus.
Qualifications:
* Must obtain and maintain an active status within the drug testing program and pass background screening.
* Must possess or be able to pass the Basic Safety Council Class Courses
* Must complete the Matrix Service Basic Safety training and site-specific training.
* Must possess a valid TWIC card.
* Site may require fire retardant clothing.
* Maintain clean shaven and/or free of facial hair so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly. (Site Specific)
* Must be willing to frequently travel/relocate.
* Must be willing to work frequent overtime.
Physical Requirements:
* Must be able to perform tasks at heights.
* Work will include pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 60 pounds, such as raw or fabricated material, equipment or tools. Heavy lifting will often be required to perform tasks.
* Must be able to kneel, squat, and climb. Work will include frequent bending, kneeling, crouching and stooping and occasional climbing onto equipment and/or trailers. Work involves standing and/or walking for extended periods of time, up to a minimum of 8-10 hours per day
* Must be able to perform required duties for extended periods of time, often inside confined spaces.
* Must be able to perform tasks in hot and cold temperatures.
