Responsible for general cashier duties for the Gift Shop and Museum; with daily transactions in handling cash, credit cards, gift certificates, purchase orders, accounts receivables, and payroll deductions. Prepares the store for opening and closing reports for daily sales and verifies deposits. Works closely with Lead Sales Associate to assure merchandise is counted, received, and tagged in a timely manner. Maintain website and social media presence including upload of new merchandise photos and shipping out phone orders. Takes part in an extensive year-end inventory count which may require working later than scheduled shift. Operates specialty espresso stand and oversees inventory supplies. Maintain strict confidentiality of business operations relating to daily transactions, purchases, theft, co-workers, customers, and vendor information. Assist with room rentals, summer artist markets and winter bazaars held within the Cultural Heritage Center complex. Examples of Work Performed: Work is performed adhering to strict operational standards, and guidelines of the Cultural Heritage Center. Work to inspire a welcoming atmosphere for a culturally enriched shopping experience. As scheduled, employee will routinely open and close the Gift shop, Museum, and event banquet rooms. Ensure all doors are secure and building is clear of patrons prior to activating security alarm. Restocks merchandise daily and performs inventory spot checks of current items. Required to process end of the day closing reports, reconcile daily business transactions and verify for final deposit. Make sure there is sufficient change available for daily store operation. If needed breakdown change using end of day closing cash drop or make change the next day. Greets the public and addresses problems, issues, complaints tactfully, courteously, and effectively or refers to management depending on situation. Maintains awareness of Cultural Heritage Center scheduled events or activities held by the Yakama Nation. Provides safety and security measures for all gift shop inventory and consigned items in the store. Assist Lead Sales Associate with daily sales deposits, counting cash, verifying deposit totals, verifying banks, reconciles daily sales receipts with daily reconciliation closing report and completes cash receipt for deposit to Department of Revenue office. Assist Lead Sales Associate with printing month-end accounts receivable reports, and stock status reports. Assist with counting, labeling, and receiving new inventory. Arranges the gift shop merchandise and displays accordingly for increased sales and for safety measures. Keeps the gift shop appearance clean, free of dust and debris. Answers incoming telephone calls professionally and refers to proper person and or department. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of computerized cash registers, retail, and inventory control. Knowledge of Native American hand-crafted beadwork, art, traditional and contemporary clothing. Knowledge and ability to utilize excellent customer service skills in relating to sales. Knowledge of Yakama history relating to permanent and changing exhibits in the museum. Ability to maintain excellent time and attendance. Ability to work in a teamwork-oriented environment. Ability to work nights, weekends and Holidays as business is open seven days a week and work hours change according to season. Ability to adjust work schedule as needed, to cover co-workers shift in emergent situations. Ability to work under stress and manage unexpected situations using independent judgement. Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift at least thirty pounds. Ability to greet the public professionally and assist customers accordingly. Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with elected officials, management, co-workers, and the public. Ability to utilize general office business equipment. Minimum Requirements: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Must provide a Food Handlers card and CPR card. Must dress appropriately for a public business environment. Must pass a pre-employment background check. Required to pass a pre-employment drug test. Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply. Preferred Requirements: Six months cashier experience as a trainee or equivalent to working in an established retail business.
