Provides food handler trainings, responds to environmental health complaints, and remains on stand-by for emergency sanitation and prevention control. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
  • Conducts food establishment inspections for restaurants, and food trucks.
  • Conducts food inspections in schools, daycares, and foster homes.
  • Facilitates food handler classes.
  • Responds to City complaints in reference to environmental health issues from public (311 calls).
  • Monitors and inspects illegal food activities.
  • Serves as sanitation prevention and control expert for all public health emergencies; maintains sanitation at all shelters during an emergency and/or City event.
  • Will be required to drive City vehicle for City business use
  • Performs related work as required

Minimum Qualifications Required Experience and Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited* college or university in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
  • At least one (1) year of experience in environmental administration, lab testing, or related experience
*Council of Higher Education Accreditation (C.H.E.A.)Proof of TB Test/Screening will be required to be presented prior to employmentValid Licenses and CertificationsRequired Licenses or Certifications:
  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
**Continued employment is contingent on successfully obtaining required certification(s) and/or license(s) within the specified period of time indicated above from time of hire.
  • Registered Professional Sanitarian must be obtained within 24 months of employment**
