GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is skilled work in driving and operating solid waste and recycling collection vehicles involved with loading and disposing of various solid waste materials. Work entails operating heavy mechanized loading-equipped trucks and performing related manual tasks, daily contact with unpleasant materials, and outside work regardless of weather. Accountable to and works under the direction of the Superintendents and Public Works Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB DESCRIPTION:Drives solid waste collection vehicles; operates mechanized equipment in the loading and unloading of solid waste, recyclable and other solid waste materials.Loads and hauls recyclable or solid waste materials from collection sites to sanitary landfills or other designated areas for disposal or processing. Learn both residential and commercial routes.Knowledge of FDOT traffic regulations and the practices necessary for the proper care and safe operation of heavy-duty trucks.Record billing for extra debris.Occasionally work weekends, nights, holidays and special events.Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently.Ability to interact with the public and co-workers courteously, efficiently and effectively.Required in-office attendance.This position is designated as mission-critical by the Department Director.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:- Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE):- Class B Florida CDL License
- Must pass DOT Physical
- High school diploma from an accredited school or a GED.
- Two (2) years' experience driving large vehicles, working with people, and working sanitation procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:- Knowledge of occupational hazards.
- Knowledge of residential and commercial routes.
- Knowledge of truck maintenance and safety.
- Ability to drive large vehicles.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION:- Valid Florida Driver's license - Class B CDL
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:- Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrective lenses)
- Acceptable hearing (with or without a hearing aid)
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:- Requires medium to heavy physical work that involves mainly driving, and includes walking, standing, stooping, lifting, pushing, or raising objects, and involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
