- Sufficient education to read and write; and
- Two (2) years experience in the operation of the assigned equipment.
Necessary Special Requirements:
- Possession of an appropriate driver license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.
Nature of Work:This is skilled work in the operation of moderately complex sanitation?related equipment, which may include vehicles commonly used to collect yard trash, bulk waste and garbage from routes throughout the city.An employee in this class operates equipment requiring skill and manipulative ability. An employee in this class may exercise supervision as a lead worker over a small group of semi-skilled or unskilled workers.Examples of Work:
- Drives and operates vehicles used to collect and haul yard trash and bulk waste from an assigned collection route.
- Operates other related sanitation equipment, including automated side-loading garbage trucks.
- Operates front-end loader tractors.
- Checks equipment for routine servicing needs and provides minor maintenance work when required.
- May be required on a regular basis to work pre-dawn hours as scheduled.
- May supervise the work of semi-skilled and unskilled employees as a lead worker.
- Performs pre-trip inspections for all equipment operated.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of sanitation-type equipment and associated hydraulic equipment and parts.
- Considerable knowledge of the operation and minor servicing of standard and specialized sanitation equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of street locations.
- Good knowledge of traffic regulations and safe driving practices.
- Skill in the care and operation of assigned equipment.
- Ability to supervise employees as a lead worker.
- Ability to carry out oral and/or written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
