DescriptionUNDERSTANDING The Sanitation Specialist position is essential to the manufacturing process. Through training and development, they operate, clean, and maintain automated production machinery and are responsible for operating equipment necessary for doing specific cleaning tasks (ex. overhead pipes, ceiling trusses, storage racks, tumblers, production lines, etc.). They must understand and comply with all GMP's, company rules, policies, safety protocols, working procedures, sanitation guidelines and perform to Albanese food safety standards, under the direction of the Sanitation Supervisor/Manager. SCOPE The Sanitation Specialist supports production teams by creating and maintaining a sanitary GMP manufacturing environment. This team member works with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality to ensure food safety and sanitation practices are at the highest standards plantwide. Sanitation Specialists are responsible for cleaning and maintaining a sanitary environment throughout the plant to comply with company and regulatory requirements. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Responsible for the cleanliness of the manufacturing environment.
- Comply with all company Quality, HACCP, GMP, and Food Safety standards.
- Maintain strict compliance in PPE use when handling chemicals.
- Understand the use and proper titrations of approved chemicals for the sanitation process and distribution plantwide.
- Sanitize equipment and utensils using water pressure hose and chemicals.
- Perform and document Sanitation duties as outlined by Master Sanitation checklists.
- Interact with Sanitation Supervisors and Leads to prioritize specific projects and evaluate the progress of work.
- Collaborate with Operations, Quality Control, and Maintenance departments on cleaning procedures and projects.
- Operate Power Scrubbers and PIT equipment (Pallet Jack, Fork Truck, Scissor Lifts, etc.)
- Responsible for cleaning all production equipment; disassemble, assemble, rinse, foam, scrub, sanitize, and inspect.
- Willing to follow guidelines for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ability to pass visual inspection and subsequent Quality inspections for all work performed.
- Report food safety issues to the Sanitation Supervisor or Manager.
- Follow Standard Sanitation Operating Procedure (SSOP) and perform to the established standard.
- Disassemble and reassemble equipment as necessary for cleaning.
- Work with Supervisor for validation of SSOP's and updates to SSOP's.
- Proficient with chemicals and understands how chemicals impact the cleaning process.
- Work at heights for the cleaning of the facility to include ceilings and all overhead structure.
- Operate forklift for clearing obstacles and products that impede cleaning progress.
- Utilize product tracking system as needed.
- Work requires physical strain such as long periods of standing and short periods of bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
- Assist with recycling disposal program and general waste management.
- Safely operate tray washing machine.
- Respond to radio calls for cleanup assistance as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- The success of this position relies highly on a close working relationship with Quality Control, Maintenance, and Production Staff.
- Motivated self-starter willing to share ideas.
- Ability and willingness to drive the cleaning process to completion.
- Willing to learn through coaching and formal training.
- Excellent interpersonal skills - team player.
- Time management assertiveness to adjust to specific duties.
- Basic computer skills.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand for the duration of an 8 to12 hour shift with applicable breaks.
- Ability to lift, carry, bend, push, pull, and twist frequently as needed.
- Ability to walk long distances and walk-up flights of stairs.
- Able to wear PPE attire when handling chemicals.
- Withstand getting wet from washing machinery.
- Prior experience in food manufacturing sanitation is necessary.
- Must be able to speak, read and write in English.

EDUCATION
- Must have a High School Diploma or a G.E.D.
