POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing supervision and leadership for sanitation on all shifts and responsibilities associated with day-to-day cleaning activities and efficiency. This position is responsible for the Sanitation budget and maintaining the necessary inventory for the sanitation department. The supervisor acts as the leader in managing compliance with regulatory bodies such as USDA, FDA, and 3rd party audit bodies.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follows and applies with his team all safety rules, processes, and procedures implemented by the company
  • Has functional literacy and oral communication skills in English for safety and following job-specific instructions.
  • Has the ability to function under highly stressful conditions
  • Performs inspections of plant, equipment, and parts for cleanliness.
  • Embraces and champions Food Safety Standards and constantly enforces them.
  • Trains and educates sanitation personnel in safety practices, GMPs, test methods, and procedures related to sanitation.
  • Review daily sanitation reports and ensure that corrective and preventive actions are taken promptly to address any poor sanitation practices.
  • Performs testing of chemicals used in sanitation, as needed.
  • Observes strict sanitation specifications and procedures by his/her team.
  • Could you conduct environmental monitoring swabs to identify unsanitary surfaces, as needed?
  • Conduct pre-operational and operational inspections
  • Maintains sanitation inventory by identifying items that are running low and requesting materials.
  • Effectively interact with other plant departments, to address areas of potential food safety or quality issues.
  • Works with FSQA Manager and Supervisor on the development of cleaning procedures, Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), and test methodology.
  • Conduct internal audits as needed
  • Supports the resolution of customer complaints and adverse environmental results and identification of root causes and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Enforces safety within the department through constant training in safety procedures and regulations.
  • Interacts with production supervisors of the previous and next shifts to ensure a smooth continuity transition of tasks/responsibilities.
  • Responsible for managing the chemicals cage and sanitation supplies.
  • Maintains work areas and tools neat and organized.
  • Assures that sanitation activities are completed on time and accordingly with the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Completes daily/monthly sanitation reports and communicates significant events to management.
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities for continuous improvement for the company and department.
  • Supports the selection, orientation, education, and performance reviews of employees in the shift. It also provides continual review and coaching for improved performance.
  • Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of the position at any time.
  • Responsible for the management of laundry, wastewater treatment and waste/recycling activities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for supervising and directing all functions of 10-15 Sanitation department team members or designated third-party sanitation companies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science degree, or other related field preferred, with minimum of 3 years experience in sanitation/ hygiene in the food industry.
  • Experience with FDA, USDA, and GFSI.
  • Must have intermediate knowledge of Quality Systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform troubleshooting, cause finding and taking corrective actions to address issues in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to get results through mentoring others
  • Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel)
