Position Type: Student Support Services/School NurseDate Posted: 10/3/2024Location: School Board Office (Central Office)Position Title: School Nurse (Saturday Academy) Location: Southampton County Public Schools Reports To: Principal Job Summary: The School Nurse is responsible for providing healthcare services to students and staff, promoting health and wellness within the school community, and ensuring compliance with health regulations. The School Nurse will address health concerns, administer medications, conduct health screenings, and educate students on health-related topics. Key Responsibilities: Health Services:
- Provide direct care to students and staff for illnesses and injuries.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers.
- Conduct health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis) and maintain health records.
- Develop and implement individual health care plans for students with chronic health conditions.
- Monitor immunization compliance and maintain accurate health records in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Health Education:
- Educate students, staff, and parents on health-related topics, including nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Develop and present health education programs and materials.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate health education into the curriculum.
Health Promotion and Disease Prevention:
- Identify health and safety concerns in the school environment and implement strategies to address them.
- Promote healthy behaviors and lifestyles among students and staff.
- Coordinate and participate in health promotion activities and events.
Emergency Response:
- Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff.
- Develop and implement emergency care plans for students with severe allergies, asthma, and other life-threatening conditions.
- Train staff on emergency procedures and the use of emergency equipment, such as epinephrine auto-injectors and AEDs.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with parents, teachers, administrators, and healthcare providers to support student health and well-being.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, the community, and healthcare professionals.
- Participate in school health committees and contribute to policy development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of [Insert State].
- Certification in School Nursing preferred.
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics or public health.
- Strong knowledge of pediatric health, public health principles, and emergency care.
