SCADA SYSTEM TECHNICIAN I

DUTIES AND FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The incumbent in this class is responsible for PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programming, HMI (Human Machine Interface) programming, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software programming, and integration of electrical/electronic process control systems. Work is performed under general supervision. This position requires weekend and holiday work as well as participation in the twenty-four (24) hour on-call rotating schedule.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems and components, associated with flow, level, and analytical measuring device; calibrates, maintains, and repairs wastewater treatment plant instrumentation; assists in the installation, repairs, and programming of PLC's, digital valve networks, and other complex process control systems; performs independent action to troubleshoot and repair the plant process control systems; responsible for the proper setting and operation of pressure, level, motion and status switches that interlock to the process control systems; maintains the continuous emission monitoring system on the incinerator stacks; performs calibration and repair on sensor and alarm systems for oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, explosive gas (methane), and fire detection; utilizes electronic test equipment such as laptop computers, volt/ohm/amp meters, digital manometers, and a variety of specialty calibrators to verify the accuracy and proper operation of the plant equipment; keeps accurate records of calibrations and correction maintenance; uses laptop computer for troubleshooting, and researching technical information related to field installations; documents work completed in a computer-based work order system; performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of computer operation systems, considerable knowledge of PLC Programming, HMI development programming, spread spectrum radio setup and database management; working knowledge with Auto-Cad Software; strong knowledge of electrical control systems; ability to read electrical blueprints and schematics; ability to document and maintain accurate records; ; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives from other agencies, staff and department heads.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of one (1) year of work experience related to the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial instrumentation or electronic equipment found in water or wastewater facilities; possession of a valid state of Delaware Journeyman's license; experience working in a wastewater environment; one (1) year experience, in water treatment, or pump station maintenance group; one (1) year of experience reading instrumentation data, interpreting schematics, circuit diagrams, and manuals related to instrumentation; excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent organizational skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
