POSITION DESCRIPTION

Production Scheduler

Function and Scope

Schedule machine production of approximately 1.1 million tons annually in a manner that guarantees fulfillment of customers' requirements and adherence to all manufacturing requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive orders and proof for accuracy.
  • Communicate with corporate for order clarification and to resolve any issues that would cause delay in production or shipment of orders. Secure alternate solutions for production and/or delivery delays.
  • Manage customer master file for accurate updated customer specifications and profile.
  • Plan and schedule orders to meet estimated machine production.
  • Provide shipping/paper machine operators with complete and adequate information necessary for order completion. Communicate with paper machine/shipping to resolve any problems with order completion.
  • Plan all truckloads for maximum allowed weight and complete order fulfillment.
  • Monitor daily production to assure orders are manufacturing on schedule.
  • Monitor shipments to insure shipments are on time.
  • Receive and effectively respond to customer inquiries.
  • Maintain communications between the mill and corporate to reduce controllable costs, improve grade cycles, increase productivity, and contribute to quality awareness by serving as the central liaison point within this group.
  • Monitor warehouse inventory to reduce excessive miscellaneous stock inventory and unscheduled lots; apply all sellable rolls to current secure orders.

Supervision and Leadership Exercised

  • Direct mill personnel in resolutions to issues concerning the production, loading and shipment of orders.
  • Make prompt decisions when presented with manufacturing upsets to minimize impact on customer and still maintain production requirements.
  • Guide other members of the scheduling/shipping department in direction needed to resolve issues.

Reporting and Accountability Relationships

  • Reports to Shipping/Finishing Superintendent.
  • Accountable to Mill Management, Paper Machine Superintendent, Containerboard Sales Service.
  • Responsible for servicing 500 customers at a production capacity of 3,400 tons per day.
  • Responsible for managing a working inventory averaging 3,000 tons per month.

Decision Making Authority

  • Responsible for all decisions made for the scheduling, manufacturing and shipment of orders within the scope of the scheduling department.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience
  • High school graduate with 5 years plus job related experience.

  • Knowledge/Competencies
  • Good math and computer skills, detail oriented self-starter capable of making good dependable decisions. Operates within established guidelines with minimum guidance. Must be a good communicator for effective contact with internal and external customers. Ability to interface positively with all levels of people, i.e., upper/lower management, sales (liner and news) carriers, customers. Handle multiple tasks in a fast paced, high stressed environment. Must work well under pressure.

  • Office environment located in warehouse section of manufacturing facility. Requires walking through mill area to reach office. Work is very fast paced with high stress level. Frequent calls at home after hours from mill operations personnel and corporate in emergency situations with the possibility of necessitating return to mill to solve problem and perform tasks to resolve the issue at risk.
