Position SummaryThe Scheduler is responsible for scheduling cases for surgical services as well as inputting patient charges and post procedural data.Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.Demonstrates/articulates an understanding of the responsibilities of the positionVerbalizes and applies knowledge of current department and hospital Policies and ProceduresAttends staff meetings or equivalent, to update knowledge related to current department/hospital issuesAttends in-services as required/requested to update knowledgeCompletes annual department/hospital competency requirements and documents appropriately on Competency/Educational RecordProcesses schedule accurately and completely, utilizing the hospital computer systemPrioritizes, organizes and manages a daily assignment within the normal work periodFollows up on scheduling conflicts, issues, charge posting, etc.Post charges for all surgical and endoscopy procedures correctly and in a timely fashionEnters post operative data for all surgical and endoscopy procedures correctly and in a timely fashionPerforms daily back up of the scheduling systemMakes appropriate decisions regarding scheduling, postoperative data entry and charge postingCommunicates self learning needs to Surgical Services Data System CoordinatorReports pertinent observations/findings to the appropriate personnelRecognizes problem situations, sets priorities appropriately, offers feasible solutions, initiates appropriate actionsPerforms all other related duties as assigned.Education & Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma /Equivalency
- Previous experience preferred
- Excellent typing/ word processing /computer skills
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Organizational and priority setting skills
- Successful completion of the orientation program

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment
- May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed
through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
- The position operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as phones, computers, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines located at multiple locations within the building.
- Ability to move equipment & or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to constantly greet and direct staff, visitors and callers.
- Ability to remain stationary for extended periods of time.
- Ability to move about the office frequently.
