POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for performing general secretarial and clerical duties in the surgical services core desk. Interacts with physicians and the physician offices continually. Schedules surgical procedures for all the operating rooms. Works with materials management in special instrumentation and supply orders for the schedule's procedures. Answers the telephones for the surgical services department. May be needed to work beyond the tour of duty. Calls surgeons' offices to confirm procedures. Faxes the schedule to the administrative office. Any other additional duties as directed per the Nurse Manager and/or the Director.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred:
- Completion of an approved program for unit secretaries, or equivalent experience
- Hold current BLS/CPR certification
- Strong computer and typing skills
- Medical terminology is a must
- Legible handwriting
- Effective oral and written communication skills in the English language
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment

- Displays concern and aids as appropriate to callers or in face-to-face situations.
- Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
- Works with customers to identify problem areas and recommend solutions.
Must clear background and drug test required.
