Job Description:

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

* Serves as a teamwork leader and is responsible for assuring the task assignments are completed for the Scheduling Communication Coordinator, Clinical Insurance Authorization and Patient Charge Specialist within the Cath Lab.

* Performs the essential duties and responsibilities and the primary functions of the Scheduling Communications Coordinator.

* Involved with training and development of employees in the roles listed in #1.

* Responsible for teamwork with physicians, Cath Lab/CVOR staff, HVC Clinic, and all areas served by Cath Lab/CVOR.

* Performs data entry related to charging, logging and quantifying Cardiac Cath Lab Department activities.

* Enhances the communication between Cardiac Cath Lab, hospital departments and physician office staff.

* Functions as a receptionist and remains professional and positive when dealing with stressful situations and multiple demands related to the operation of the Department.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

* Trains and orients Scheduling Communication Coordinator, Clinical Insurance Authorization and Patient Charge Specialist within the Cath Lab and provides input to the Manager for the evaluation staff members.

* Answers phone, introduces self and greets others with a pleasant manner.

* Takes messages for the Director, Surgeons, Anesthesiologists and staff.

* Schedules procedures for the Cardiac Cath Lab.

* Maintains Cath Lab schedule.

* Schedules emergent cases throughout the day and informs Cath Lab Staff and Anesthesiologist.

* Creates and manages Cath Lab schedule. Maintain correspondence between physician's offices regarding assignments and changes and assists with letter distribution.

* Informs House Supervisors of emergent scheduled cases.

* Performs daily routine verification of start time changes to schedule.

* Performs data entry of cath lab cases.

* Maintains file for all postop orders for surgeons.

* Orders clerical supplies and equipment; receives and places items in their proper storage area.

* Assigns Anesthesiologist consults per the patient or Surgeon's request.

* Informs Reps of upcoming cases that they will be needed for.

* Assumes the initiative in fulfilling own needs for continuing education and maintaining own clinical expertise. Participates in in-service education.

* Displays a helpful, professional, positive attitude when communicating with all customers.

* Uses the internet for resource work as requested.

* Performs daily activities and maintains work flow for Cardiac Cath Lab.

* Coordinates and handles special projects as assigned.

* Keeps abreast of applicable computer programs and applications.

* Keeps abreast of appropriate activities and events occurring within the Medical Center.

* Makes copies, collates and staples materials as requested.

* Tracks research variances as requested.

* Prepares various organizational charts.

* Prepares statistics reports from Meditech to support the director.

* Coordinates, directs and evaluates the tasks completed during the shift. They serve as a resource and positive role model of all team members, always striving for excellent attention to detail, accuracy and timely service for customers. They are the primary preceptor for training new staff regarding instrument sterilization policies and procedures.

* Is a decision-maker, problem-solver, and critical thinker who facilitate communication with all team members and customers.

* Other duties as required for the efficient operation of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

* High school graduate or equivalent

* Medical terminology required

* Certified Health Unit Clerk, Medical Assistant, CNA is desired

Experience:

* 1 year in hospital as a unit clerk experience

SALARY RANGE

* $22.96 to $33.77/hour

* Entry salary dependent upon education, skill-set, and experience.
