The position may also require weekend trips or other transportation needs. The role reports directly to the Transportation Manager within the Operations Department. It serves multiple members of the Pingry community, including students, employees, Auxiliary Programs, and Athletics.Responsibilities
- Support transportation operations at Pingry for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.
- Provide relief coverage during team member absences (e.g., vacations, sick leave).
- Handle special assignments, including off-campus programming and afternoon athletics transportation.
- Assist the Transportation Manager with vehicle fleet maintenance.
- Perform pre- and post-trip inspections (compensated for 30 minutes before and after each scheduled trip).
- Take on opportunities for weekend floater work.
- Adapt to potential changes in responsibilities as Pingry's transportation program evolves for the 2025-2026 school year.
Qualifications
- Commercial Operator's License (CDL): Applicants must obtain a Class B Commercial Operator's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
- Excellent Motor Vehicle Commission history (current Operator's Abstract).
- Candidates must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting to ensure student and staff safety.
- First Aid and CPR certification is required (Pingry will support training and certification if needed).
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff, providing clear instructions and maintaining professionalism.
- Capable of remaining patient and calm in various situations, such as traffic, student behavior, and emergencies.
- Must be able to make quick decisions in response to changing road conditions, weather, and student safety concerns.
- Must adhere to schedules, maintain punctuality, and ensure that students arrive at school and return home on time.
- Prior experience working with children, in a school setting (or other capacity), is preferred.
- A proven track record of maintaining the necessary credentials to operate a commercial vehicle.
- Ability to proactively identify and resolve operational issues and conflicts as they arise.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Experience with Google business applications (Gmail, Google Calendar) and the ability to quickly learn web-based systems such as Veracross, Ruvna, and ADP.
